Chapter 371: Josephine Arrives

โ€œI donโ€™t know about the others,โ€ Phoenix said, a cold smile playing on her lips, โ€œbut the Phoenix Regiment will definitely fight for a share of the Whitaker familyโ€™s properties. In fact, Iโ€™ve already secured two of their real estate agencies.โ€

Zachariah slammed the table, his gaze hostile. โ€œPhoenix, this is preposterous!โ€

โ€œWhy? Do you want to fight?โ€ Phoenix challenged, showing no weakness.

The two men were on the verge of drawing weapons. The other martial arts families watched silently.

Luke stood, attempting to mediate. โ€œAll right, thatโ€™s enough. Based on the rules, Phoenix is correct. However, this is a special case between the Whitaker and Jantz families. Perhaps a compromise? The Jantz family could relinquish half the Whitaker properties. That would solve everything.โ€

โ€œImpossible!โ€ Zachariah retorted. โ€œI wonโ€™t give up a single penny! I swear Iโ€™ll make you pay if you insist!โ€ He was exasperated. He needed the money to purchase herbs for the Crescent Sect.

Luke, usually the alliance peacemaker, found himself stymied by Zachariahโ€™s intransigence. A fight seemed unavoidable.

Bane, who had remained silent, spoke. โ€œLetโ€™s go with the old rules. Weโ€™ll compete in the arena!โ€ He rose and left.

โ€œFine. Meet in the arena in three days,โ€ Zachariah agreed, departing immediately.

โ€œArena it is! Do I look afraid?โ€ Phoenix scoffed, departing as well.

Luke sighed helplessly, addressing the remaining crowd. โ€œAll right. The conference is dismissed.โ€

The Warriors Alliance Conference, lasting less than ten minutes, ended tensely. Though many martial arts families were dissatisfied, they knew their limitations and remained silent.

Two days later, at Lizbethโ€™s house, Jared sat at a table laden with food Lizbeth had prepared. For two days, sheโ€™d kept him inside, fearing the Jantz family. To her surprise, they hadnโ€™t appeared.

As Lizbeth finished preparing and was about to eat, the doorbell rang. Fear gripped her.

Jared rose, but Lizbeth stopped him. โ€œSit down. Iโ€™ll get it.โ€

Opening the door, she gasped. โ€œJosephine? Why are you in Summerbank?โ€

Josephine stood outside, holding fruit. โ€œI was worried about Jared.โ€ She smiled faintly.

Jared rushed to the door, overjoyed at her arrival. โ€œJosephineโ€ฆโ€

Josephine ran into his arms. Sheโ€™d been worried sick in Horington, Summerbank being less safe.

Lizbeth stumbled back, unsure what to do, witnessing their embrace.

โ€œIt smells delicious. Did Lizbeth cook?โ€ Josephine asked, eyeing the food.

โ€œYes, she cooks well. Iโ€™ve been enjoying her meals for the past two days,โ€ Jared replied.
