Chapter 385: Run
"Youyou destroyed my Soultrapper Formation?" Venicus asked, his voice trembling.
"You call that a formation? If that's all you've got, you can forget about becoming my disciple!" Jared retorted disdainfully.
"Don't get so full of yourself, kid!" Venicus snarled, his rage evident.
He produced five small, black bottles from his pockets, each sealed with yellow wax. Jared's eyes gleamed. Oh? Master Venicus has some interestingโฆ and usefulโฆ things on him! he thought. These will greatly benefit my cultivation!
Venicus produced a spell-etched piece of paper. "Come forth, all ye damned souls!" he chanted, igniting the paper. As it burned, the five bottles erupted in flames, unleashing a deafening chorus of ghostly wails that filled the arena.
The crowd recoiled in terror. Phoenix shielded a pale-faced Josephine. The arena plunged into darkness as countless ghosts poured from the bottles. Many spectators fainted from sheer fright. Tommy, however, remained unfazed, having witnessed similar spectacles before.
As the ghosts swirled around Venicus, he frowned at Jared's calm demeanor. "Are younot afraid?"
Jared chuckled coldly. "Mere ghosts? Bring on your best shot!" He actually welcomed the ghosts; they would be valuable resources for his cultivation.
Venicus, his options dwindling, gritted his teeth. "Attack!"
The ghosts lunged at Jared, claws extended. He waited until they were close, then opened his mouth and inhaled them. Most were consumed instantly. The few that tried to escape were swiftly caught and devoured.
Venicus watched in stunned disbelief as his trump card was neutralized. In the Crescent Sect, mages were only permitted to keep spirits as pets; Venicus had gone to great lengths to secretly maintain these ghosts.
The sight of Jared consuming the souls sickened many in the crowd; several vomited. Josephine, too, felt nauseated and threw up. Kissing Jared after thatโฆ she thought grimly.
"Run!" Venicus yelled, fleeing toward the exit. He hoped Jared would pursue him, allowing his escape.
To Venicus's surprise, Jared ignored the Jantz family and chased him. Seeing Venicus's retreat, Zachariah and his family immediately fled, leaving Wilbur's body behind in their terror.
