Chapter 74: A Pretty Good Match
When Steel saw Jared approaching, he tried to stand, but the excruciating pain prevented him. Jared's kick had been too powerful.
"What are you trying to do? I'm from the Crimson Dragon Gang, and our leader is Steven Fisher!" Steel blurted out, his grim expression betraying his fear.
Jared sneered. "Steven, huh? If you hadn't mentioned the Crimson Dragon Gang, I might have spared you. But now" He stomped on Steel's legs, shattering them beyond repair.
"Ahh!" Steel screamed in agony, writhing on the ground.
Delilah trembled, horrified by Jared's ruthlessness. Brayden, too, broke into a cold sweat, his knees knocking.
Jared picked up the money, gave Delilah a chilling glance that sent her collapsing, and strode into the bank to redeposit it.
At home, Hilda and Chloe were waiting. Hilda rushed toward Jared, then hesitated, remembering her mother, Hannah, was present.
Hannah, noticing Jared's return, scolded, "Where were you? Hilda waited all day! Go for a walk with her."
"I had to handle something, Mom," Jared explained.
Hilda, pulling Jared along, said, "Mrs. Chance, I'll be going for a walk with Jared."
"Sure," Hannah smiled. "Talk for a while, then join us for lunch."
After they left, Hannah remarked to Chloe, "They seem like a pretty good match!"
Chloe agreed, laughing.
As soon as they were outside, Hilda asked urgently, "What did they do to you? Did they hurt you?"
"No," Jared reassured her. "Don't worry about the loan; it's settled. Find a decent job and work hard. I have an interview tomorrow, and I'll recommend you if the company's suitable. Be more discerning next time when choosing a boyfriend."
Hilda gazed at Jared with adoration, but he avoided her gaze, wanting to avoid any misunderstanding; he only saw her as a sister.
While they strolled, Jared's phone rangโJosephine.
"Where are you? I went to Dragon Bay, and you're not there!"
"My parents weren't used to living there, so we moved," Jared lied. He didn't know why they'd left.
"I see," Josephine replied, her disappointment evident.
After the call, Hilda asked softly, "Was that your girlfriend?"
Jared hesitated. He didn't know; they'd never officially defined their relationship.
