Chapter 129

Roxanne was frightened and uneasy when she saw Bruce had found Gavin. Bruce's face was cold. "Why are you so nervous?"

"I'm not nervous!" Roxanne denied, though her heart pounded. Bruce examined her with a sinister expression.

"Bruce, don't look at me like that. Do younot trust me?" Roxanne's body went numb under his gaze. Tears fell again; she looked weak and helpless.

Bruce remained silent, smoking and waiting. Roxanne's unease grew. She wanted to warn Gavin not to talk nonsense, but Bruce watched her constantly.

Half an hour later, Gavin was brought into an office containing a large, double-sided mirror. Bruce and Roxanne watched him from behind it, unseen by Gavin.

Roxanne's face paled at the sight of Gavin. Her fingertips dug into her flesh. Bruce, legs crossed, quietly observed Gavin. His status prevented a personal appearance; as Greyport's wealthiest man, the scandal of his fiancée's infidelity would be incredibly embarrassing. He'd leave the questioning to his subordinates; even if their relationship were improper, it wouldn't be publicized. However, Bruce wouldn't suffer in silence.

In the office, Gavin, facing several coldly expressionless bodyguards, felt his mouth go dry and his scalp tighten. "Why am I here?"

Andy smiled professionally. "Mr. Tate, don't be nervous. We want to understand the situation."

Gavin's gaze faltered. "Understandthe situation?"

"Have you seen this car before?" Andy showed Gavin a photo of a Maybach.

Terror seized Gavin; he broke into a cold sweat. "Y-Yes"

"Our dashcam shows you driving this car into a tree!"

"I-I didn't do it on purpose. It's been repaired"

Andy frowned. "Sir, the 'repairs' caused further damage! The damage is serious, requiring factory repair. The cost is $200,000. You must compensate."

"What? I don't have that kind of money! What kind of car is this?!" Gavin was distraught. He was already in debt. He felt suicidal.

Andy changed the subject. "We need to understand the situation. Why were you driving the car? What's your relationship with Ms. Haynes? Why would she let you drive such an expensive car?"

Gavin's wandering eyes froze. This was far more serious than the accident. Everyone knew Roxanne was Bruce's fiancée. Cheating with her would be catastrophic.

Behind the mirror, Roxanne watched Gavin nervously, barely daring to breathe. Bruce saw her fear and unease; their innocence was questionable.

"Mr. Tate, answer my question!" Andy urged.

Gavin took a deep breath. "Roxanne and I are just classmates!" He wouldn't reveal their affair.

Roxanne visibly relaxed.

"Classmates? If you're in a relationship with Ms. Haynes, we can drop the compensation."

"We're just classmates! Nothing more!" Gavin lied, his expression betraying him.

"Then the responsibility lies with Ms. Haynes?"

"No! I saw the car and wanted to try it! I'm sorry!" Gavin stammered, unable to afford the repairs.

Andy was about to continue when Bruce's voice came through a hidden earpiece: "That's enough. Let him go."

Bruce was shrewd; he saw their abnormal relationship. Further questioning was unnecessary.

Andy nodded at the mirror. "Mr. Tate, we're done. You can go."

Gavin was speechless; he'd been let off. Andy sent him home.

Roxanne's heart relaxed. "Bruce, do you believe me? I have nothing to do with him!"

Bruce smiled faintly. "I was just asking. Don't be so nervous." He lacked sufficient proof of Roxanne's innocence, so he feigned ignorance, letting Gavin go. He'd catch them in the act, then break off the engagement without worry. Even suicide wouldn't be his concern.

Seeing Bruce soften, Roxanne moved closer, leaning into him. "Bruce, I don't want to go home. I want to be with you." She touched his waist.

Bruce raised an eyebrow, enjoying her initiative. She unbuttoned his belt.

"Bruce, we've been together so long. I want to take things further! My sister has done this, and I can too! Why are you so fixated on her? She's had a child; am I less appealing?" She winked. She doubted her charm was inferior to Joanna's; Bruce had been impulsive with her before, but she'd played hard to get, rejecting him three times before giving in, only to find him uninterested afterward.

Bruce didn't resist, seeming intrigued. "Roxy, I'm not easily impulsive. If you want to be with me tonight, you must take the initiative."

Roxanne's eyes lit up. She kissed him, removed her coat, and moved to the sofa. Bruce neither initiated nor refused, letting her lead.

Ten minutes later, Roxanne exerted herself, her eyes dreamy, her body soft. She expected his unrestrained passionbut Bruce smiled playfully.

"You did great!"

Roxanne's cheeks burned.

"But I'm not in the mood. Another day!" Bruce buttoned his shirt, pushing her away. He'd been testing her; her experience, despite her pretense of inexperience, was evident. Only a woman with such experience would understand men so well.
