Chapter 227

For the past few months, Gavin had endured the agonizing pangs of longing. He dared not seek Roxanne again, haunted by the harm he had caused her. How could he face her?

That night, Bruce had someone remove the hooligans who had bullied Roxanne. Their ultimate fate remained unknown, and Gavin never saw or heard of them again. He himself had suffered a broken leg, recuperating at home for four months before finally recovering this month. Roxanne's call, therefore, filled him with overwhelming joy. He bombarded her with hundreds of messages that night.

Roxanne read each message, though she didn't reply. The feeling of being loved and cherished was deeply satisfying and emotionally comforting, a stark contrast to Bruce's cold cruelty. Women, she reflected, needed gentle care more than anything.

As she read Gavin's messages, Roxanne grew increasingly restless. It was 4:00 a.m., and she finally replied: "See you at the usual place at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow."

Gavin's ecstatic response was immediate; he leaped for joy. He never expected Roxanne to agree to meet.

The next day…

Roxanne awoke after 10:00 a.m. After a quick meal, she began to dress. By 11:30 a.m., she was ready. The meeting place was some distance away, requiring an early departure to avoid unwanted attention.

As she prepared to leave, a servant approached: "Ms. Haynes, are you going out? Where to?"

Bruce, despite his lack of love for Roxanne, provided generously for her material needs and a large staff.

Roxanne calmly replied, "Oh, I'm going home. To see my parents."

"Then I'll arrange a driver…"

"No need. I'll drive myself. You don't need to follow. I have private matters to attend to."

"Alright!"

Her freedom wasn't restricted, despite Bruce's lack of affection. While Sherane Bay Villa boasted numerous bodyguards, they weren't tasked with constantly shadowing her. Roxanne drove out and hailed a taxi, taking a circuitous route to their meeting place.

At 1:10 p.m.…

In a secluded Eastern cuisine restaurant—their former dating spot—Roxanne arrived. It was discreet and safe, catering to couples seeking privacy beyond hotels, though expensive.

Gavin was already waiting. Overwhelmed with emotion, he rushed to embrace Roxanne, tears in his eyes. "Roxy, I'm sorry. Kill me!" "I dare not beg forgiveness; just seeing you again is enough." He kissed her cheek, instantly softening her heart.

"Gavin…"

"Roxy, I missed you. I knew you couldn't forget me!" He showered her with passionate embraces and sweet words. Roxanne didn't reciprocate intensely, but she didn't resist, especially given her long deprivation of love. The sight of him weakened her.

Soon…

Gavin initiated intimacy. Roxanne didn't refuse, only whispering, "Gavin, be gentle. I'm pregnant!"

Gavin was stunned, staring blankly. She was pregnant; she would still become another man's wife. Yet, he continued, his touch gentler now.

An hour later…

Roxanne was utterly content, nestled in Gavin's arms, feeling like soft mud after a downpour. This feeling… it overwhelmed her. Compared to happiness, what was money? For a moment, she questioned the negativity surrounding her relationship with Gavin. He might lack wealth, but he provided immense happiness and satisfaction – things money couldn't buy.

"Roxy, will you forgive me?" "How have you been? Seeing you again, even for a day, satisfies me."

Roxanne lacked the strength to speak, only hugging him tightly.

"Roxy, is he good to you?" "Are you in danger coming here? Will he hurt you if he finds out?"

Roxanne's unhappy expression answered his questions. Gavin guessed she was unhappy; otherwise, why contact him?

"Roxy, if he treats you badly, come to me. I'll love and cherish you forever." "I know I'm unworthy. I can only offer my life! You'll always be the only one." "I'll always be by your side."

Gavin genuinely loved Roxanne; his words weren't empty promises. He knew his background was unsuitable, his unworthiness glaring. His only recourse was sincerity.

Roxanne, touched by his confession, kissed him, fully forgiving him. Though he was at fault that day, she understood his pain. He couldn't protect her, much less handle those five hooligans.

"I should go!"

"Roxy, can we meet again?" Tears streamed down Gavin's face as he reluctantly released her, knowing this might be their last meeting. She was Bruce's woman, her presence here a considerable risk.

Roxanne didn't reply; how could she leave him? For months, she'd suffered nightly torment. Life at the Everett family's, however, offered less freedom, constantly watched by servants and bodyguards.

"Let's talk next time."

"Roxy, I can't bear to let you go!"

"Hurry. It's getting late. Going back late will arouse suspicion!" Roxanne began dressing, reminding him, "Don't worry, I'll find you if a suitable opportunity arises. If I'm not looking for you, don't call or text."
