Chapter 228
"If someone sees us, we'll both be dead!" "Don't worry. I'll wait for your call. I won't disturb you." "Then I'm leaving!" "Roxy, remember to think about me! Think of me every night!" "You too!" "I think about you all the time"
After their reluctant farewells, Roxanne hurried back to Sherane Bay Villa. Her mood had improved dramatically; she was energetic, and her cheeks were rosy.
Reagan No. 8 Residence, 7:00 p.m.
Bruce brought Davian and Irvin to see Joanna, as usual.
"Mommy, we're here!" Davian and Irvin exclaimed, running happily into the room.
"Good boys" Joanna felt instantly better seeing her sons. "Where's Lilia?" Noticing only Davian and Irvin, she asked.
Irvin replied, "Lilia's a little sick, so she didn't come."
Joanna immediately asked anxiously, "What's wrong with her? How sick is she?"
"She has a slight cough. The doctor said she has a cold, so Daddy kept her home and only brought us."
Joanna quickly looked at Bruce, concerned. "Bruce, is Lilia okay?"
Bruce frowned. "She's fine, just a cold. It's chilly today, so I decided not to bring her." He added, "Don't worry; I've already had a doctor see her."
Relieved, Joanna turned to Davian, who winked. She understood immediately—he'd brought her a mobile phone. She glanced uneasily at Bruce.
After a pause, she hesitantly asked, "Bruce, I'm a little hungry. Could you get me a bowl of century egg and lean meat porridge from Honeymoon Dessert?" Bruce was speechless.
Chapter 228 (continued)
"Alright, I'll have the driver get it for you."
"II want you to buy it for me, please?" Joanna pleaded, her eyes hinting at coquettishness.
Bruce was incredulous. This woman finally knows how to sweet-talk me, he thought.
Seeing his silence, Joanna added quickly, "It'll taste better if you get it."
Bruce suppressed a smile, pretending nonchalance. "Fine. Anything else?"
"Yes, a mousse cake, too!"
"Alright, I'll be right back!"
Leaving, he couldn't help but laugh. "Heh, women are all the same!" he mused. They make men jump through hoops to gauge their worth. But he wasn't angry; in fact, he was pleased. He usually gave orders, but this errand felt surprisingly delightful.
"Ms. Chain, Nancy, help me make a fruit mix! Lots of strawberries and blueberries, with fresh coconut juice and milk!"
"Yes, Ms. Haynes!"
Joanna needed an excuse to send the maids away.
Once they were gone, she immediately asked Davian, "Davian, did you bring a phone?"
"Mommy, don't worry. I brought one!" (Note: The website plug is removed here. It is inappropriate to include in a cleaned-up passage.)
Davian produced a smartwatch from his shirt pocket.
"Daddy doesn't know, right?"
"No, he doesn't. It's a children's phone from kindergarten."
"Good boy!" Joanna took the phone, excited. "Don't tell Daddy or anyone."
"Yes, Mommy!" Davian nodded.
Just as she hid the phone, the maids returned with the fruit mix.
"Ms. Haynes, the fruit mix is ready! Strawberries, blueberries, coconut juice, and milk, as requested."
"Thank you!"
Irvin drooled. "Mommy, I want some!"
"You can share. Mommy needs her nutrition. You can't snatch her food," Davian said.
"It's okay. I'm not very hungry. You two can have it."
"Great!" they both exclaimed.
"If you like it, we'll make another bowl."
"Great!"
The boys happily ate the fruit mix.
Half an hour later, Bruce returned with several bags.
"I got the food."
"Thank you!"
Bruce placed the porridge and cake on the table. Joanna felt embarrassed and uneasy. She'd just wanted a way to get rid of him. She hadn't expected his obedience.
"Eat up! It won't taste good cold."
"Okay," Joanna replied, beginning to eat.
"Is it good?"
"It's delicious, thank you!"
Bruce sneered. "Why thank me? I bought it for the children, not you!"
Joanna felt a stinging rebuke. She knew he wouldn't be overly nice. He was sharp-tongued but indirect, saying the opposite of what he meant. He clearly wanted to please her, but wouldn't admit it.
