Chapter 245

"I know, but she's still my sister. Let her go home first!" "Joann, you can't always be so soft-hearted," Bruce said, sounding disappointed. "She can run, but she can't hide. If she's involved, you can settle the score later," Joanna retorted, refusing to be seen as a pushover. If Roxanne was truly involved, she wouldn't let her off easily.

Bruce was silent for a long time before finally agreeing. "Alright, I'll call the driver and send Roxanne home."

"Alright! I'll hang up."

Joanna hung up and glared at Shaun. "Bruce will send her home. Go home and wait for her."

Shaun's tense shoulders relaxed. "See? I knew it would work! Take care. I'm going home."

"Hurry up and leave!" Joanna snapped, pulling the blanket over her head. She didn't want to see her father.

Shaun realized he'd overreacted. "Don't be mad, Joann. I panicked."

"I'm tired, Ms. Chain. Send my father out!"

"Alright, Madam," Ms. Chain said respectfully, turning to Shaun. "Please leave. Madam needs rest." She ushered him out. (Remove the website promotion)

Back at Everett Group, Bruce called Kody. After considering Joanna's request, he decided to release Roxanne to her parents. The Haynes family was deeply rooted in Greyport; escape wouldn't be easy. He'd also post bodyguards around their house.

Kody answered. "How may I help you, Mr. Everett?"

Bruce lowered his voice. "Go to Sherane Bay Villa immediately and send Roxanne to the Haynes' residence."

"Alright, Mr. Everett!"

Half an hour later, Kody arrived at Sherane Bay Villa, picked up Roxanne, and drove her home, where her parents waited anxiously.

Ingrid and Shaun rushed to Roxanne the moment she arrived. "Roxy!"

"Mom, Dad!" Roxanne sobbed, collapsing into Ingrid's arms.

Ingrid patted her back. "Silly girl, you've suffered. Come in!"

Shaun also comforted her. "Everything's alright. We're relieved you're home. Did that bastard do anything to you?"

"Not yet."

The three went inside, still weeping.

Ingrid turned to Roxanne anxiously. "Roxy, tell me—what have you done?"

Roxanne whimpered, glancing timidly at her father. She confided in her mother easily, but some things were best kept from her father.

"Come on, tell me!"

"Mom, I" Roxanne hesitated, crying harder. Ingrid immediately understood her daughter had a secret. "Let's go to the room, just the two of us."

Shaun was bewildered. "What's going on? Are you and Bruce fighting? I thought everything was fine. Why would he imprison you?"

"Don't worry about it. Roxy just got back; stop bothering her!" Ingrid took her daughter's hand and led her upstairs.

Once inside, Roxanne trembled, tears streaming down her face.

"Gosh, my poor child. Don't cry. Tell your mother everything. I'll help you. Let's fix it together."

Roxanne cried, "Mom, I don't know how to say it!"

Ingrid was distraught. "Stop crying! Tell me why he's detaining you."

"Mom, Bruce Bruce suspects I hired someone to kill Joann!"

"What?" Ingrid gasped, her eyes darting around nervously. She was the one who hired the murderer.

"Why would he suspect you?"

"A criminal attacked Joann. Bruce thinks I ordered it!"

Ingrid forced herself to remain calm. "There's no evidence. Why would he suspect you?"

"He investigated me and my bank account!"

"What does that have to do with anything?" Ingrid demanded, confused.

"Mom, I transferred money—one million, then two million. Bruce thinks I hired a hitman to go after Joann!"

Ingrid nearly fainted. "Then where did you spend it? What did you do?"

"Mom, stop asking! If anyone asks, tell them you spent it!"

Ingrid stamped her foot. "I'm in trouble too! How can I protect you when I can't protect myself?"

"If you don't explain, how can I help you?"

Roxanne's scalp tingled. "Mom, Joanna was nearly killed. Did you hire someone?"

"No, no!" Ingrid panicked.

Roxanne's heart pounded. "Mom, tell me the truth. Did you do it?"

"Don't ask. Tell me, who did you transfer the money to? And what have you done? How can I help if you don't tell me?"

Roxanne wailed.

Ingrid's heart sank. "Oh my god, don't tell me you're having an affair with that broke loser again? Did you spend all that money on him?"

"No way!"

"Then what is it? You're making me anxious!"

Roxanne blew her nose. "Mom, I'm in big trouble. If someone finds out, I'll probably die!"

Ingrid's face paled. "What trouble did you cause?"

"Do you remember when Joanna and Grandma argued, and Grandma was hospitalized? Joanna visited her, and she was flirting with Bruce. I was hot-headed. I—"

"What did you do?" Ingrid's eyes widened in horror.

"I pulled out Grandma's ventilator plug!"

Ingrid felt as if she'd been struck by lightning. She slumped onto the bed. "You, why are you so silly?"

"Mom, I was angry! I didn't do it on purpose! I didn't know Grandma was so fragile! I unplugged the ventilator. In less than two minutes, Grandma passed away!"

"My dear girl, how could you be so muddle-headed? How dare you do such a thing?"

"Mom, I was so angry! I remembered Joanna was responsible for Grandma's hospitalization. If Grandma died, Bruce would blame Joanna. I…I only wanted to make him hate her. I didn't expect Grandma to die…" Roxanne cried harder.

Ingrid was dumbfounded. If they were found out, the Haynes family would be ruined.

"Don't cry, it's useless! Tell me everything in detail!"

Roxanne stopped crying and recounted the events. "I pulled out the ventilator, saw her stop breathing, and panicked. A doctor came in, caught me, and I knelt and begged him. I offered him 20 million to cover it up."

Ingrid gasped. "You stupid girl! You can't do anything right, but you're good at ruining things! Why do you do these horrible things? Don't you consider the consequences?"

"So you transferred 3 million to that doctor?"

Roxanne nodded weakly. "Yes…"
