Chapter 55
After returning home, Joanna found the house already tidied. Jaydon had sent someone.
"Joanna, I think you should move! I have a vacant mansion in Black Hollow Bay. You could move in!" "No, thank you. I've troubled you enough."
"How is that troubling me? The house is empty. It's perfect for you!"
"No, it's too far from my workplace."
Jaydon sighed, relented, and said, "Okay. Let me know if you need anything!" "Thank you, Jay!"
"There you go again. You don't have to thank me."
Joanna felt conflicted by his kindness. "Jaydon treats me too well. I wish I knew how to repay him," she thought.
Arriving home, Joanna entered the passcode. Talia, eyes red, rushed to the door. "Miss Haynes, you're back!" "Where's Lilia?"
"Lilia has a fever. I was about to call you!"
Joanna rushed to Lilia's room, foregoing a change of clothes. Lilia suffered from thalassemia and a heart condition; robust health was vital. A cold could be deadly.
Lilia lay limp, her cheeks flushed. "Lilia, Mommy's back!"
Heartbroken, Joanna touched Lilia's forehead. "It's burning hot! At least 100 degrees Fahrenheit!" she thought.
Lilia opened her eyes, her eyelashes fluttering. Weakly, she said, "Mommy, you're back!" "Yes, I'm back! Are you feeling unwell, Lilia?"
"I'm tired, and I miss you, Mommy. I miss Davian and Irvin too. When are they coming back?"
Joanna stroked Lilia's hair. "Next week. I'll pick them up. We'll all come back and see you, okay?"
"Yeah, okay!"
Jaydon, witnessing the scene, said, "Take Lilia to the hospital!"
Lilia trembled. Hospital visits were traumatic for her. The needles and scalpels left her deeply scarred.

"Mommy, I don't want to go to the hospital! I'm afraid of needles. I can take pills, no matter how bitter. Mommy, please don't send me," Lilia cried.
Joanna's eyes welled. "There, there. Let's not go. Let's give her medicine to control the fever." "Okay. I'm not scared of medicine," Lilia said.
Joanna hid her tears from Lilia.
"She needs a blood transfusion every three months. She's only three, but has had seven major operations. Except for her face, Lilia is covered in scars. I'd give my life for her recovery," Joanna thought.
In the hospital, the ICU door opened, and a nurse wheeled Roxanne out. Ingrid and Shaun asked the doctor, "How's Roxy?"
"The patient is awake. Her life is out of danger! She can be transferred to the VIP ward."
"Oh, Roxy! Thank goodness! You scared Mom and Dad to death!" Roxanne was moved to the ward.
"Roxy, how could you be so stupid?" (The FindNovel.net advertisement has been removed.)
"You silly girl, what would Mom and Dad do if something happened to you?"
"Mom, Dad" Roxanne murmured weakly.
She hadn't intended to cut her arteries; she'd only meant to graze her skin to scar Bruce.
Ingrid sighed, relieved but worried. "It's a blessing in disguise. Mr. Everett has agreed to marry you!"
Roxanne stared in disbelief.
"It's true. He promised Dad and me! You'll marry him after you recover."
"Tsk, you silly girl. Why did you do it? Don't you know how dangerous that is?"
Bruce entered with flowers. Ingrid chuckled, "Bruce is here!"
Roxanne looked weakly at Bruce. "Bruce"
Bruce sighed, walked to the bed, placed the flowers down, and produced a large pink diamond ring. "Roxy, will you marry me?"
"Bruce" Tears streamed down Roxanne's face.
Ingrid and Shaun were overjoyed. Ingrid even felt a momentary urge to snatch the ring.
"Roxy, why are you still in a daze?"

Bruce slipped the ring onto her finger. "Will you marry me?" he asked again. "Yes!"
"Silly girl, don't ever do such a foolish thing again!"
