Chapter 56

"We'll get married as soon as you've recovered," Bruce said softly, gently stroking Roxanne's cheek. Roxanne cried uncontrollably.

"I almost died, but it was worth it!" she thought.

Ingrid said, "Dad and I will leave first. You two have a nice talk."

"Okay!"

As she exited the ward, Ingrid smiled broadly. "Oh, thank goodness! Mr. Everett is finally marrying Roxy!"

"As soon as they get married, I'll rub it in Mrs. Paul's, Mrs. Roger's, and the others' faces!"

Shaun frowned. "Look at you! Roxy almost died. How can you still be showing off?"

"Well, it was frightening, but we have a happy ending. I didn't expect her to have some of my old tricks up her sleeve. She sure pulled a cruel one!" Shaun sighed and shook his head.

Derick and Ryan rushed to the hospital after hearing about Roxanne.

"Mom, Dad, how's Roxanne?" they asked, already reaching for the ward door.

Ingrid quickly stopped them. "Don't go in! Roxanne's talking with Mr. Everett. Don't disturb them!"

"Oh!"

"I have great news! Roxanne is finally getting married!"

Derick looked surprised. "Really?"

"Of course!"

Derick excitedly slapped his thigh. "That's great!"

"Mom and Dad, I want a sports car!"

Ingrid was angry. "Didn't you just buy a Porsche last year? Why another car?"

"What about the bags you bought last year? You bought more this year!" "That's different! Do you know how much a bag costs? Now think about a car!" "Gosh, Roxanne's marrying Mr. Everett! It's only hundreds of thousands of dollars! All my classmates have sports cars. I want a Ferrari, please buy it for me," Derick begged, shaking Ingrid's arm.

Ingrid pursed her lips. "How much is it?"

"It's just a little over 750 thousand dollars."

"Over 750 thousand dollars? You're the black sheep of the family!"

"If you don't buy it, I'll ask Bruce! He has so many, I'll just ask him for one."

Ingrid grabbed Derick. "Stop it, brat! Don't embarrass us! Mr. Everett just proposed to your sister. We're better than this. I'll buy it for you when Roxanne gets married."

"Deal."

"Sure!"

"Thanks, Mom. I'm off!" Ryan kissed Ingrid's cheek and left.

"I'm leaving too!" Ryan and Derick left together.

Ingrid sighed in relief, then her expression darkened.

"Joanna, that little bitch, deducted Rick and Ryan's pay! No money for two months!" Shaun said dejectedly. "Don't even mention her. She cut off Rick and Ryan's payroll, and mine too!"

Ingrid was indignant. "I told you to hold a press conference and announce you're severing ties. We'll see how confident she stays." "Wouldn't it be worse to sever ties now? She's running Haynes Group, she can ask for quarterly dividends."

"This is irritating. We can't let her have her way. We'll do something after Roxy marries Mr. Everett."

After Ingrid and Shaun left, Bruce felt self-conscious. "Roxy, does it hurt?"

"A little!"

"Never do that again!"

"Okay."

"Just focus on your recovery. We'll get married when you're better."

"All right!"

Bruce was at a loss for words. Looking at Roxanne's bandaged wrists, his heart ached.

"You should rest. I have a company meeting, I'll leave first."

"Sure."

Bruce kissed Roxanne's forehead and left.

Ingrid rushed in after Bruce left. She removed the diamond ring from Roxanne's hand and put it on her own. "Let me see it! Wow! At least 20 carats! A big diamond is so beautiful! Look how shiny!"

"Mom!"

"Let me wear it for a couple of days."

Chapter 56

Bruce walked out of the hospital, distraught. A tall, thin young man ran towards the hospital, bumping into Bruce.

"I'm sorry! So sorry!"

Bruce frowned but, hurried on.

The young man rushed to the nurses' station. "Which ward is Miss Roxanne Haynes in?"

Gavin, worried sick, had rushed to the hospital to see Roxanne, disregarding the risk of being discovered.
