Chapter 73

Reaching this point in her relationship with Bruce hadn't been easy for Roxanne, and she was unwilling to surrender. She longed to marry Bruce and become a member of the Everett family. As long as Bruce granted her the status of Mrs. Everett, she was prepared to silently endure his infidelity, even his daily encounters with other women.

"Bruce," she began, "that's not what I meant! You and Joanna have a history."

"And we're biological sisters," she continued. "If this gets out, it will harm Joanna, you, and me! Bruce, I know you're under pressure and need an outlet, but please, not with Joanna."

Tears welled in Roxanne's eyes as she pleaded with Bruce. Her meaning was clear: he could see other women, but not Joanna. Even gold diggers were preferable to Joanna, who threatened Roxanne's position.

Bruce raised an eyebrow, his expression unreadable. Her words deeply unsettled him. Would a woman truly love a man and allow him to have other women? he wondered. Roxanne likely only cares for my status, not me.

"Is there a difference?" Bruce asked with a strange smile.

Roxanne, momentarily stunned, decided to be bold. "Bruce, I can do everything Joanna can!"

"I understand," she continued. "I was too reserved in the past, leading you to harbor certain thoughts. But I didn't want to give myself away easily! I didn't want you to think I was easy! But Bruce, we're about to get married. I don't want to remain chaste any longer!"

As she spoke, Roxanne began removing her outerwear. She threw herself into Bruce's arms, hugging his neck tightly.

"Bruce, I love you. I can't live without you! Whatever Joanna can give you, I can too! Don't look for Joanna anymore. If you have needs, you can come to me anytime! We've been in love for six years. What else can't we do?"

Affecting shyness, Roxanne trembled as she kissed Bruce. Her small hands began unfastening his belt.

Bruce frowned slightly but didn't react, allowing Roxanne to continue. [The promotional sentence has been removed.]

"Bruce, I love you! Take me tonight…"

Roxanne was determined to become Bruce's woman that night. She'd prepared meticulously: she'd bathed and perfumed herself. All she needed to do was feign inexperience, convincing Bruce it was her first time.

She was confident that his belief in her inexperience would secure her his possession. However, Bruce's frown deepened as Roxanne's advances grew bolder.

Though Roxanne seemed clumsy, she instinctively touched his most sensitive areas. Her kissing was expert. These weren't the skills of an inexperienced woman. Paradoxically, the more she acted this way, the less interested Bruce became. The hunt was in his nature; readily available prey held little appeal.

"Roxy, stop!"

"Bruce, I love you. Don't hold back anymore!"

Roxanne's soft lips and fragrant perfume were intoxicating. She'd already begun unbuttoning his shirt when Bruce pushed her away. "Roxy, don't be like this!"

Roxanne was stunned, tears welling. "Bruce, don't you want me? Don't you love me anymore?" He had clearly desired her before.

However, her mother had taught her not to give herself easily. Roxanne had cultivated an image of innocence and purity before Bruce. Consequently, his advances had become less frequent.

"We'll talk about this after we're married," Bruce said, adjusting her clothes. He pushed her away and left the office.

Embarrassed and angry, Roxanne anxiously chased after him. "Bruce, where are you going?"

"I have a client meeting. You should go home."

Roxanne called after him, but she had to pause to adjust her clothing. Bruce had already left the office. He was now bored with Roxanne. Once, her naivete had intrigued him; now, it irritated him.

He got into his car. "Mr. Everett, where to?" his chauffeur asked respectfully.

Bruce paused, inexplicably wanting to see Joanna. "The Haynes Group."

Half an hour later, the car pulled into the Haynes Group's underground garage. Bruce took the elevator to Joanna's office.

It was ten o'clock; everyone, including Joanna, was busy.

"Hello, Mr. Everett!" the employees greeted him respectfully.

Bruce nodded and went straight to Joanna's office.
