Chapter 1012

Skylar neatly folded the letters and put them back in her bag before answering the call.

“Have you had your lunch break?” Joe asked.

Hearing Joe’s voice momentarily distracted Skylar. Glancing at the time, she realized it was already noon and softly replied, “Yes.”

Joe paused briefly. About a minute later, he asked, “Did Mr. Gardner Senior assign you a difficult task?”

“No, it’s just a bit exhausting,” Skylar replied, her voice trembling slightly as she gripped her phone. Her eyes were reddening. She needed time to figure out how to discuss the divorce with him. She could doubt anyone else, but not Viola. But…

“Alright, let me know if you need anything,” Joe said.

Skylar agreed. Joe then mentioned that Gloria had prepared a meal at Pearlhall Residence and wanted them to come for dinner.

The mention of Gloria brought tears to Skylar’s eyes again. She managed to keep her voice steady as she replied, “Okay, I’ll see you at Pearlhall Residence tonight.”

After Joe hung up, he tapped his fingers on the desk, lowered his gaze, and pondered for a moment. Then, he pulled out his phone and dialed Alexander’s number.

“Mr. Gardner Senior.”

“Joe, is that you? What’s up?” Alexander replied.

Joe said, “Yes, it’s about Skylar. I spoke with her just now. She seemed distressed. Did you give her something particularly challenging to handle? Should I assist in any way?”

Hearing this, Alexander sighed inwardly. It seemed Skylar hadn’t shared the full details with Joe yet and was still uncertain about how to approach the situation.

Alexander said, “It’s likely quite challenging. However, if she needs help from you, she’ll let you know. In the meantime, please be understanding with her. Skye is going through a tough time.”

Despite Skylar’s ability to handle negative situations in Jipsburg, Viola’s directive meant she could no longer manage them. This already weighed heavily on Skylar. But receiving the second letter asking her to divorce Joe felt like the final blow. She was trapped, facing impossible choices and a series of lose-lose scenarios.

Now, seeing Joe’s reaction, asking two people who cared about each other to divorce seemed cruelly unfair.

Alexander couldn’t help but sigh.

After finishing her coffee, Skylar decided to leave the café. She wasn’t particularly hungry and intended to grab a quick bite at a nearby deli. As she was heading that way, she spotted Rowan and Jenny entering the café. They were walking one after the other, both wearing stern expressions that suggested a recent heated argument.

Unlike their previous encounters, they didn’t immediately notice Skylar.

Jenny, feeling aggrieved, reached out and grabbed Rowan’s arm. “Rowan, please don’t get upset. I realize now that I was wrong. I shouldn’t have done that. I didn’t think it through. I’ll just keep quiet if we run into Minerva next time.” She hadn’t expected to bump into Minerva while shopping. Jenny also suspected Minerva had deliberately appeared in their path.
