Chapter 1036
Charles and Steven understood Skylar's implication immediately. Their anxieties vanished.
Steven said, "No matter your decision, I'll support you. But update me immediately if anything changes. I'm the head of our family. You can't keep anything from me. If I can solve the problem, I will. Otherwise, we'll face it together."
Charles heartily agreed, "Steven's right. Your divorce from Joe makes me uneasy; I feel he took advantage of you. But I know you had your reasons. I support you too."
Tears welled in Skylar's eyes. She took a sip of water to compose herself.
Janine peeked from the kitchen. "We're out of garlic. Could someone get some from the grocery store outside? They have lots of fruits and vegetables." She returned to cooking.
Skylar offered, "I'll go."
"I'll go with you and get some yogurt," Steven said, following her.
Charles was too slow; they'd left before he could stand. He hesitated, then decided against it; three people weren't needed for garlic.
As they left the neighborhood, Steven asked, "I thought Joe adored you. Is there a misunderstanding?"
"Not really. After living together, we realized we had unacceptable flaws. It's simple. A divorce benefits us both. I'll move back home with Mom afterward. It's great."
"You, Charles, and Harvey should come home whenever you're free. We can have dinner and chat," Skylar added casually.
Steven seemed unconcerned. He nodded, "You're right."
"Don't tell Mom yet. I'll leave Jipsburg for a few days after the divorce and tell her then."
Skylar regretted confiding in them. They wouldn't have known if she'd remained silent, yet now they worried.
"Alright," Steven replied.
They reached the grocery store, a small but well-stocked shop. It carried Steven's favorite yogurt.
"Want some?" Steven asked.
Skylar nodded. "Let's get two bottles—one for Mom, one for Charles."
"Okay."
On their way home, Skylar ordered milk and yogurt online for delivery. As she put away her phone, Paul called.
"Mr. Ziegler," he said urgently, "Mrs. Martin, please return to Galaxy Villa immediately. Something's happened to Mr. Martin."
Skylar paled. "Something happened?" she repeated, incredulous.
