Chapter 1037
โItโs a long story, I canโt explain over the phone. Just come quickly, Mrs. Martin.โ Paul hung up.
Skylar turned to Steven. โSteven, somethingโs wrong with Joe. I need to go home. Help me make an excuse for Mom.โ
Steven didnโt inquire further. The sudden pallor on her face suggested an emergency.
Skylar hurried back to Galaxy Villa. Inside, she found Paul, Howard, and two doctors. Howard was descending the stairs, escorted by the doctors.
Paul approached Skylar. โMr. Martin had an international conference call scheduled. He fainted a few minutes beforehand! He woke up on the way to the hospital and refused to go, insisting on returning to Galaxy Villa.โ A rare seriousness etched Paulโs features.
Clearly, Joe was in grave danger.
Skylar immediately asked Howard, โHow is he now?โ
โDonโt worry, Mrs. Martin. Iโll explain everything later,โ Howard said calmly, ushering the doctors out before continuing. โMr. Martinโs insomnia likely triggered the fainting spell. Itโs an old problem flaring up.โ
Surprised, Paul said, โMr. Martin hasnโt suffered from insomnia in a long time.โ He knew Joe had insomnia and took medication, but it wasnโt meant for frequent use. Since his marriage, Joe rarely sent him for refills. He suddenly remembered Joe had been staying elsewhere for weeks. Had his insomnia resurfaced after his separation from Skylar? Heโd always sensed a certainโฆ magic about Skylar.
โWhatever the cause, Mr. Martin needs rest. If itโs nothing serious, donโt tell him and worry him unnecessarily. I happened to find some medication overseas. We can use this as an opportunity to try it. Perhaps it will help his sleep,โ Howard said, unsure if the medication would be effective. Joe disliked medication, taking it only after several sleepless nights. He was, Howard admitted, the most difficult patient heโd ever encountered.
โMedication? Will it work?โ Paul knew Joe well.
โLetโs try. He canโt continue like this. If his sleeplessness persists, heโll be at risk, no matter how healthy he is,โ Howard sighed.
Skylar said, โIโll go upstairs and see him.โ
After she left, Paul commented, โHe never loses sleep while at Galaxy Villa. His recent absence has triggered the insomnia. I doubt medication will be effective; it won't work as well unless Mr. Martin comes back here.โ
Howard was intrigued. He whispered, โDid you think I didnโt realize? Why else would I say he wouldnโt survive long? Theyโve been arguing. But Skylar seems extremely worried about Mr. Martin.โ
Paul rolled his eyes. Did Howard think him blind?
โIf they donโt reconcile, Mr. Martin wonโt last. Do something!โ Howard urged.
Paul frowned. โDo you think Iโm Superman? Why would I know what to do?โ Being Joeโs secretary wasn't easy; Paul hadnโt yet turned thirty, but already suffered from premature hair loss.
Howard glared. โIf all else fails, we couldโฆ spike their drinks. I could get someโฆโ
