Chapter 1074

After discussing with Joe, Skylar returned to Yancey Residence. En route, Joe called to inform her that he'd arranged for someone to renovate her newly acquired house; the renovations were nearly complete. She hadn't had time to find a contractor herself, so this was a welcome relief.

Upon arriving at Yancey Residence, Janine and the others urged her to remain positive. Skylar reassured them, explaining that the situation was complex and she needed a few days to fully explain.

After easing their concerns, she met Natalie at their favorite fondue restaurant. Natalie, already there, had ordered Skylar's usual dishes. Their shared love of fondue meant the first arrival always ordered for both.

After Skylar took a few sips of water, Natalie voiced her concerns. "What's going on with you and Joe?" Since the previous night, Natalie had been plagued with questions, fearing Joe had somehow manipulated Skylar. She wondered if Skylar was seriously considering becoming Joe's wife.

Skylar, noting Natalie's worry, said, "Let's eat while I explain. Don't rush me. Have you heard me mention 'negative items' lately?"

"Yeah," Natalie replied.

"Then let's start there…"

Natalie listened, astonished, as Skylar revealed a plot involving someone working behind the scenes, reminiscent of the Jeremy situation. They needed to uncover the true mastermind.

Natalie, initially overwhelmed, eventually pieced it together. "So, you and Joe are just acting? Lizzie isn't really Joe's fiancée?"

Skylar smiled and nodded. "Exactly."

Natalie dipped a prawn into the fondue. "So, I was worrying for nothing yesterday?"

"I'll treat you to this meal," Skylar offered, handing over iced lemon tea.

Natalie raised two fingers. "One meal isn't enough. I want two."

"Fine, you win."

"You're like a rich girl now. How lucky am I to have a rich friend?"

Natalie's cheerful disposition remained unaffected. After finishing their fondue, they strolled to a nearby mall, stopping for ice cream to cool down. While enjoying their treats, they considered shopping for clothes and shoes.

As they chatted, a woman wearing sunglasses and a mask sat down before them. Both looked up immediately.
