Chapter 1080
Skylar replied, "Okay."
"Let me show you the bedroom," Joe said, genuinely eager to give Skylar a tour of their new home. As Skylar followed him, she noticed the spacious bedroom connected to a walk-in closet filled with meticulously prepared men's and women's clothing. She then opened the bathroom door to find all the necessities and skincare products already stocked.
"Please tell me you didn't have someone prepare all this after we agreed I would move out last night," Skylar asked, turning to him.
Joe nodded without hesitation. "We're married. There's no need for us to sleep apart." They could be separated during the day, but they had to share a bed at night. Skylar smirked; Joe was impressively quick.
Meanwhile, Aiken returned home from a busy day. Seeing Simona waiting, he frowned. "Why didn't you eat first?"
Simona gestured to the now-cold dinner. "I can't eat. Since yesterday, you know what I want to do. I want to call Skylar, but you won't let me." Learning of Joe's engagement, she saw a chance for Aiken; Skylar was no longer anyone's wife, and she could soon be her sister-in-law. However, Aiken had forbidden her from calling, thus dampening her appetite.
Aiken sighed, looking at his somewhat naive sister. "Some things aren't as simple as you think. Their situation is complicated. There are many issues in Jipsburg right now. This isn't the time for romantic feelings. One wrong move could push Skylar away from us." He saw the reality: given Joe's evident care for Skylar, he wouldn't easily divorce her or become engaged to someone else under these circumstances. Aiken understood Joe's feelings were significant, perhaps mirroring Simona's own.
Simona was anxious. "But I don't want you to lose this chance. Don't you really like Skylar, Aiken?" She hadn't seen him with other women lately; he seemed focused on Skylar. She hoped he could be with someone he genuinely likedโSkylar was amazing.
Aiken looked deeply at Simona. "Don't say things like that, especially not in front of Skylar."
"Okay, okay, I get it. But aren't you being a bit too cautious?" Simona felt he was overly careful regarding anything related to Skylar, afraid of making a mistake.
Aiken spoke seriously, "You shouldn't contact her for now. She just divorced Joe, and he got engaged so quickly. She must be really hurt. Can't I just comfort her?" Simona replied, dissatisfied.
"You don't understand. What she needs now isn't comfort; it's understanding," Aiken said sternly.
Though Simona had a childish side, recent experiences had matured her. Seeing Aiken's serious expression, she dropped the subject. "Fine, I get it. Don't worry, I won't bother her."
Aiken sighed in relief, glancing at the cold dinner. "Let's heat this up and eat. I had a meal earlier, but I must attend to some things. If you need anything, come find me."
"Alright," Simona nodded.
She looked at the lavish spread but felt unenthusiastic. When will our home be lively again? she thought. Eating alone made even the finest meal tasteless. However, Aiken was being excessively cautious with Skylar. She opened her phone and scrolled through the news, finding many discussions about Joe and Lizzie trending.
