Chapter 1086

Rowan had never been easy to talk to, especially today. Whoever was calling had better be prepared.

“Rowan, if you don’t come now, I’ll jump!” The call was abruptly cut off.

Then, Rowan received a video from Jenny. She was perched atop a tall building, her hair whipping in the wind as she teetered on the edge. A slight lean forward would send her plummeting.

Jenny spoke in the video, “I’m on top of the Jakeman Corp. building. Rowan, this time, I’m not joking.”

Rowan stared wide-eyed at the video, turning to Joe. “Jenny is crazy!”

Joe, having already seen the video—Paul had sent it—said, “Let’s go.”

Rowan was already standing. Despite his lingering hurt and lack of feelings for Jenny, he couldn't stand idly by. It was partly his fault, however annoying that was.

Joe drove. Though Rowan had a driver, he sometimes drove himself. In the past, Joe drove recklessly, but today, his driving was remarkably steady. Finding this odd, Rowan asked, “Why are you driving so slowly?”

Joe glanced at Rowan. “Unlike you, I’m not alone.” He had a family and a wife. Risky driving was a thing of the past.

Rowan was stunned. “What do you mean? You just got divorced and engaged again, right?” Was Joe truly so devoted to his new fiancée? It seemed unfair to Skylar. Rowan felt a pang of unease; Skylar deserved better than a heartless man. He kept his thoughts to himself, grumbling inwardly.

“Do you think Jenny will really jump? It feels like another one of her stunts.” His sobriety returned, allowing a more objective view of his relationship with Jenny. Despite her threat, he wasn't overly worried. Knowing her, this was likely a manipulative ploy.

Joe slowed for a traffic light. “She won’t jump.”

Rowan nodded. “I think so too.”

They soon arrived at the Jakeman Corp. building. It was late, with few people on the streets. The building's height ensured that rooftop activity went unnoticed. Jenny likely intended to avoid a commotion.

As they approached the building, they heard Skylar's voice. “Wait, I’ll go up with you.” Surprised by Jenny’s call, she couldn't ignore the life at stake.

Joe turned to Skylar. “She called you too?”

“Yes,” Skylar replied, approaching them.

Rowan’s gaze darted between them. They didn't seem like a divorced couple. A truly estranged pair wouldn't react with such calm composure.
