Chapter 1108
The person who had been bumped into froze in surprise upon seeing Steven.
“I… I’m sorry, I was in a hurry and didn’t see you. I didn’t mean to,” Annie quickly explained.
After a brief moment of shock, Steven’s expression returned to normal. “It’s fine,” he said, turning to leave.
“You… How have you been lately?” Annie asked, her gaze hesitant.
Steven’s tone was cold. “I’m okay.”
Annie watched in disbelief as he walked away. She hadn’t expected such distance after so long, a treatment akin to strangers. Her face paled slightly. Just then, Neville McCarthy approached, wrapping his arms around her.
“Weren’t you going to the restroom? Why are you still out here?” he asked.
Annie forced a smile, her face still pale. “I accidentally bumped into someone,” she replied.
“Did you hurt yourself?” he asked with concern.
“No,” Annie said, discreetly pushing him away before entering the restroom.
After they finished eating, Steven and Charles departed to attend to their tasks. Skylar drove Janine and Harvey home before returning to her own place. Joe followed her inside.
“What happened to Lizzie’s family?” she asked, exchanging glances with him.
“She said her brother has been trying to take his own life these past few days. She suspects something’s wrong at home. About a year ago, he suddenly changed, becoming depressed and withdrawing from everyone,” Joe explained.
They changed into slippers before going inside. Skylar retrieved two bottles of yogurt from the refrigerator, handing one to Joe. They sat on the couch.
“That does sound unusual,” Skylar said. “If it’s convenient, let’s go tomorrow. I’ll be taking Harvey and my mother on a trip in a couple of days. I’m worried we might be too late if we wait until I return.”
She had previously mentioned the trip to Joe. However, hearing her mention the vacation now caused his expression to darken slightly.
“Have you thought about how you will make it up to me when you return?” he asked.
Skylar felt he could be quite childish. He looked pitiful. “What do you want? Just tell me,” she offered readily.
Joe lowered his gaze, his eyes sparkling with desire. “How about we do something… while sitting?”
“What?” Skylar didn’t understand at first, but quickly caught on, blushing. “Joe, we’re discussing Lizzie’s family issues. Can you please clear your mind of those thoughts?”
Joe smirked. “It’s been half a month since we had any intimacy; hasn’t it? Are you trying to drive me crazy?”
Skylar jumped up. “I’ll go call Lizzie. You can have a bottle of yogurt to calm down.”
Watching her flee in embarrassment, Joe smiled as he opened the yogurt. He loved seeing Skylar flustered; it made it difficult to control himself. Skylar stepped onto the balcony to call Lizzie.
