Chapter 1154
The name suited Muriel perfectly. Muriel's name was written with an elegant touch. Lizzie understood Muriel's exceptional talent better than anyone. “She has always been exceptional,” she said.
At the hospital, Natalie stood outside Jeremy's ward. After a few minutes' hesitation, she knocked and entered. Jeremy was engrossed in his phone, likely arranging work matters. Noticing her, he glanced up, quickly ending the call and setting his phone aside. “I wanted to explain my relationship with Helena.”
Natalie interrupted. “Helena is a great person. After your accident, she came to see me, clearly very worried about you.”
Jeremy's expression darkened. “Are you developing feelings for Austin?”
“My relationship with Mr. Powell isn’t what you think. Honestly, there’s no need for an explanation,” she replied, feeling the futility of clarification after being so frequently misunderstood. Even Jessica Parker, Austin's mother, had given her a blank check. As long as she understood her situation, others' opinions didn't matter.
Jeremy's expression grew colder. “It doesn’t matter whether you like him or not. There will be no future between you two,” he said quietly. He'd learned things about Austin—hence the failed attempts to ruin his career. The Powell family wouldn't accept Natalie; a relationship with Austin would only cause her suffering. Again, that same phrase—no future. Jessica had said the same. Yet, Natalie hadn't even considered a relationship with Austin.
“Forget it,” she thought, reminding herself she hadn't come to argue. A definitive answer wasn't necessary. “You seem to be doing well. You should be discharged soon. I have to go now,” she said.
She placed some food items on the table—things Jeremy could eat, chosen with his preferences in mind. After years of knowing each other, their habits were familiar.
Jeremy glanced at the food. As Natalie was leaving, he asked, “Did Helena say anything to you?”
Natalie's expression froze, momentarily puzzled, but she didn't dwell on it. “Your situation was urgent. She only asked me to come to the hospital and didn’t have time to say much. Did you want her to tell me something?”
“No.”
“Alright, then I’ll be going.”
Jeremy watched her leave, his brows furrowed. He called Helena.
Helena was surprised by the call. “Mr. Hughes?” Her voice was uncertain.
“Did you say anything to Natalie?” Jeremy asked directly.
Helena's anticipation waned at his tone. She took a deep breath. “No, I didn’t say anything. Don’t worry, Mr. Hughes. I know exactly what to say and what not to say. I wouldn’t tell Natalie anything she shouldn’t know.”
“Good.” Jeremy hung up.
Helena’s face paled as she listened to the dial tone. She knew that in Jeremy’s heart, no one compared to Natalie.
