Chapter 1177

Skylar observed Ursula's subtle expressions, noting every shift in her demeanor. Vera, confused, asked as they left the villa, "Is something wrong with that necklace?"

Skylar responded directly, "What's the relationship between that maid and the one who fell down the stairs and died?"

"They're mother and daughter," Vera replied, taken aback.

Skylar's expression grew serious. "Then that makes sense," she murmured, nodding slowly.

Vera's confusion deepened. What connection could her family possibly have to the maid?

Seeing Vera's puzzled look, Skylar said, "We don't need to go to your uncle's house yet. Let's find somewhere we can talk."

A nagging feeling that things were far more complicated than they appeared filled Vera. Doubts swirled in her mind as she suggested, "If we head this way, there's an artificial lake. It's usually deserted and quiet."

"That will do," Skylar agreed.

Ten minutes later, they reached the lake. Despite being man-made, it was large, and, as Vera had said, deserted. It was ideal for a quiet picnic or barbecue, a place to unwind. Yet, the serenity did nothing to alleviate Vera's growing dread.

The Ruell family's fortunes had been declining for two years. Vera knew things were precarious, and the thought of further misfortune was unbearable.

"Can you tell me now?" she asked, her voice laced with worry.

Skylar gazed at the clear water, her tone calm but heavy. "What's happening with your family is beyond my control."

Vera was shocked. "What?" she exclaimed, baffled by this sudden shift.

Skylar nodded slowly. "You should ask your grandfather and uncle if they've done anything that weighs on their conscience. They might know the reason behind the maid's death."

Though still struggling to understand, thoughts began to coalesce in Vera's mind.

"Does that mean the maid we saw had some issue? Is the problem related to her?" she asked.

Skylar's expression remained neutral. "The real issue isn't with her. It's with your grandfather and uncle."

The old saying, "If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear," rang true for Denton and Marlon. Their guilty deeds plagued them with sleepless nights and nightmares. While external influences might play a part, their troubles stemmed from their malicious actions.

Vera paused, then recalled something. Every family concealed secrets beneath a polished façade. The Ruell family, with its glamorous history, was no exception.

In the past, Vera had witnessed unsettling scenes. As a child, influenced by others, she'd believed the maids were driven by greed. She'd looked down on their avarice. Eventually, everyone tacitly understood the hidden truths.

"Okay, I understand. Thank you for coming," Vera said.

Skylar glanced at the time, remembering Ursula's earlier fright. "If your grandfather and uncle realize they've done wrong, they should seek forgiveness from that maid. If they can't resolve this, their time will soon run out."

Denton and Marlon seemed to believe ordinary lives were expendable, tools for their desires.

"Alright, I understand," Vera said, her expression serious.

In that moment, she realized Skylar had deduced the true cause of Moira's death. The pieces were falling into place. Skylar's mind raced, revealing a deeper understanding of the family's hidden sins.
