Chapter 1240
โSo, Joe must still be in Murida,โ Jeremy continued. He might have suspected Ned, but recent information dispelled those suspicions. This wasn't just Skylar's speculation; she, Rowan, and John had all found Ned's information suspicious. However, Paul's location seemed to resolve the uncertainty surrounding Ned's identity.
Skylar remained silent before saying, โIโm booking a flight back to Murida.โ She felt Joe needed her.
Jeremy replied, โIโve already had people search Murida. We found nothing previously, but with Paul's information, we should find him soon. If you return, you'll receive immediate updates.โ
Skylar didn't hesitate. โAlright, Iโll book a flight now.โ She booked a flight for the day after tomorrow; all flights tomorrow were full. Janine and the others were surprised but supportive upon hearing her explanation. Skylar promised to return in two months for Steven's wedding.
Before sleeping, she spoke with Gloria. Gloria's health had deteriorated, though she remained cheerful during their conversation. Skylar, however, knew the severity of her condition from speaking with doctors. Whether to find Joe and Paul or to be with Gloria, Skylar felt she couldn't stay in Jipsburg.
Yet, a nagging feeling persistedโa reluctance to leave. The city held many memories of her and Joe.
At 3:00 AM, a ringing phone woke Skylar. Half-asleep, she answered.
โIs this Skylar? Come to my house, quickly! I suspect something evil is in my home. Iโm going crazy!โ A middle-aged manโs tense voice jolted Skylar awake. She didn't recognize him. Turning on her bedside lamp, she asked, โWho is this?โ
โIโm Joeโs father! Come over now!โ Edwinโs panicked voice still held a condescending command.
It was Edwin. Skylar had heard about him over the years. Despite the Martin Group's change in ownership, Edwin maintained a lavish lifestyle, surrounded by young women. Molly's death seemed to have had no effect; he remained selfish and self-indulgent.
โIโll go at nine in the morning,โ Skylar said.
Edwin protested, โWait until morning? No, you must come now! I canโt stand it. I feel my house is full of peopleโwomen, children, so many. When I close my eyes, theyโre choking me. I canโt breathe another minute!โ
Hearing his description of being haunted by women and children, Skylar's expression cooled. Her tone was flat, โThen leave the house for a few hours. I only have time after nine.โ
Edwin reluctantly agreed.
