Chapter 126

Skylar wanted to determine if Sadie's illness was genuine or feigned. After work, she visited Caleb at the hospital, following his surgery, then proceeded to the Williams residence. The Williams family awaited her arrival. Sadie, with her makeup removed, lay on the bed, feigning weakness. The house was full of people; the entire family was present.

Sadie felt anxious and guilty. "We don't know if she's coming. What should we do when she arrives?"

"If she shows up, we'll make her confess, then ask her to talk to Paul. It's not too late to fix the mess," Jeffrey replied.

Kenny frowned. "Dad, I don't think Skylar is having an affair with Paul."

"Kenny, have you forgotten her behavior at the nightclub? And how Paul defended her? Do you still think she's a nice girl?"

"She's a naive country girl who hasn't experienced much of the outside world. She couldn't get what she wanted from her biological parents and had to become a sugar baby. This happens more often than you think," Samuel said, his hatred for Skylar growing. Many women sought to use him to climb the social ladder; he merely played along. He felt uncomfortable that his own sister was being manipulated.

Peter glared at them and said flatly, "It doesn't matter if she was having an affair or not. The point is that Paul knows who she is. For the sake of the company, even if there's nothing going on between them, we need to ensure those connections work in our favor."

"How can you push her into a situation like that? She's still your sister," Sadie protested.

"Mom, maybe she's the reason our company is in trouble. She hasn't been donating blood to the hospital either. Clearly, she doesn't see us as her family. So, we don't have to be nice to her," Peter said indifferently. The company and Maisy were important to him; the newly discovered sister was not. He didn't care if Skylar married a pervert, as long as he could save their business.

Sadie was speechless.

"Leave it to us. You don't need to say anything once she's back," Jeffrey decided after hearing his sons.

Maisy was glued to her phone; Christopher bombarded her with messages. Desperate for money, he sought her help. However, she lacked sufficient fundsโ€”not enough for luxury bagsโ€”so she ignored him.

She once considered Christopher a great guy because he was Skylar's boyfriend, feeling satisfaction at having "snatched" him. Since Skylar no longer liked Christopher, he seemed less special to Maisy; he merely satisfied her sexually. However, many men could do that; Christopher was worthless to her.

"Don't worry, Maisy. Even when Skylar returns, you're the only younger sister I have. She doesn't deserve to be my sister," Samuel said, believing Maisy's silence stemmed from jealousy.

Maisy smiled at Samuel. "Skylar is still Mom and Dad's biological daughter. We'll talk some sense into her once she's back. Maybe she'll come around, thinking we're doing this for her own good."

"By the way, what happened between you and Mr. Martin? I thought Joe liked you. Why would he listen to his assistant and turn against us?" Samuel was puzzled.

Maisy avoided eye contact. "I don't know why, either."

"Maybe we were wrong. Maybe Mr. Martin doesn't like Maisy," Sadie admitted. Reflecting, Sadie realized she had been overly confident, assuming Maisy was attractive enough for Joe. She'd forgotten the numerous women in Jipsburg vying for Joe's attention, all equally accomplished.
