Skylar’s persistence in pursuing Ned fueled Rosa’s anxiety. A wave of panic washed over her; she couldn't lose Ned. She clung to the belief that he was her Ned, regardless of his past. Joe was gone. Yet, the memory of Skylar’s earlier actions—her strong denials and avoidance of Ned—contradicted her current approach. Skylar wouldn't seek Rosa out unless she intended to see Ned. This realization heightened Rosa's anxiety. She frantically called Ned, but her calls went unanswered. She assumed he was returning to the hotel and had silenced his phone, a common occurrence.
After half an hour, she tried again. On her tenth attempt, he answered.
“Hello?”
“Hey, Ned, what are you doing? I’ve called several times. I’m worried,” Rosa said, her voice laced with distress.
Ned, having just arrived at the hotel, replied, “I just got out of the car. My phone was on silent.”
“You might be fine, but I’m not!” Rosa thought, unable to articulate her true feelings. Instead, she sobbed, “I’m scared, Ned. Can we go back to Murida? I want to have my surgery there. We’re doing so well; we don't need this Jipsburg branch. Let’s leave tomorrow.”
She regretted her earlier ambition, her desire to prove herself. Ned's business expansion had filled her with excitement and hope, but now, she only wanted to escape.
Ned responded calmly to Rosa's panic, “If you’re scared, go back tomorrow. The Murida hospital will be ready for you.”
“And you?”
“Once things settle here, I’ll leave everything to others and return.” He was straightforward.
Rosa’s face paled. “Can’t you come back with me? You said I’m the most important person. You have no family here; I’m your only family. How can you leave me to face surgery alone?”
