Chapter 1285
The call hadn't ended, but she could hear security personnel nearby. It seemed Skylar wouldn't see Joe today.
โIs there anything else?โ Joe suddenly asked.
Skylarโs eyes welled up. โIf I said I have evidence proving youโre Joe Martin, would you meet me now?โ
The call disconnected abruptly. Skylar stood frozen, a wave of disappointment and confusion washing over her. After a moment, she regained her composure and booked a flight to Murida for tomorrow.
Meanwhile, in the airport lounge, Rosa glanced at Ned, who had just finished his call. His unusually quiet demeanor and tense expression worried her. Apprehension flooded her. โNed? Was it work-related?โ
He hadn't answered her earlier question about the caller. She suspected it was Skylar, but didn't know what they'd discussed. Considering recent news articles about him, Rosa felt increasingly uneasy. A nagging feeling persisted that this man would soon belong to someone else.
Ned met her gaze. โItโs nothing.โ
She bit her lip, doubting his words. His earlier comments had been brief and impersonal, cold like his interactions with employees. Yet, something felt amiss.
โNed, I miss our home,โ Rosa said softly.
Ned looked down at her cautious gaze, as if she feared losing him. โWeโll be home soon,โ he reassured her.
โNed, youโre the person I love most. Promise you wonโt leave me. Soon, weโll have a home, a few kids, and live happily together.โ Rosa painted a vivid picture of their future, a wish theyโd once shared. After a moment, he nodded.
Rosa was overjoyed. โGood thing weโve decorated three kidsโ rooms. We have to have at least three! We both grew up as orphans; I hope our home will be filled with laughter and joy.โ
Joe seemed lost in thought. โWhat did the police tell you about my accident?โ
Rosaโs smile vanished. โWhy are you asking about the accident?โ The earlier callโit had to be Skylar. Rosa knew she wouldnโt give up easily; she was determined to ruin her life.
Under Nedโs intense gaze, Rosa reluctantly explained, โThe accident site had no surveillance. You were thrown from the car; several people died.โ The truth was, she didnโt know all the details. The police had mentioned the lack of surveillance footage and a vanished car, only that several people had died. Ned was the sole survivor.
Ned recalled waking up with no police investigation. Beyond his month-long hospital stay, there had been no further information about the incident.
