Chapter 1288
"Mom, did anyone tell you they were coming over?" Skylar asked, puzzled.
Janine shook her head, equally confused. "No, I don't know many people in this building. If company employees had issues, they wouldn't come to the house; they would call me directly. If it were your brothers, they would have told me in advance."
Skylar had already walked to the door. Hearing Janine, however, she paused, peering through the peephole. Only she and Janine were home; caution was necessary.
The person outside wore a baseball cap pulled low, obscuring their face. Their build suggested a woman.
"Who is it?" Skylar asked.
The woman outside said, "I'm your downstairs neighbor. I have something to discuss with you. You're too loud. Do you have kids at home?"
Skylar raised an eyebrow. The downstairs neighbor?
She turned to Janine. "Mom, has the downstairs neighbor ever contacted you before?"
"No, I don't even know what the downstairs neighbor looks like. And they're complaining about noise? Everyone in the residents' group chat is usually very considerate. Besides, we're just having dinner and chatting. How could we be noisy?" Janine asked, bewildered. The building was well-constructed, with good soundproofing.
Skylar nodded. "Sounds like a misunderstanding."
She opened the door. "Hello, we have no children here, and we haven't made any loud noises. You might want to check with someone else."
She started to close the door, but the woman pushed her way inside, catching Skylar off guard.
"Skye!" Janine gasped.
The sudden intrusion shocked them. The woman went straight to the living room and sat on the couch.
"You!" Janine began, but stopped, seeing the woman's face.
Skylar entered the living room, her expression cold. Seeing the woman's face, she was stunned, then her expression hardened.
"It's you?" Janine frowned.
The woman surveyed the house with disdain. "I heard you started a big company and earn enough to rent an entire building. So you're rich. But why live in such a small place instead of a large villa?"
Ignoring Janine and Skylar's silence, she laughed. "Surprised to see me? Did you think I'd died? I'm lucky; I don't die easily."
"How did you find this place?" Janine asked seriously.
