Chapter 1303
As Joe’s grandmother, Gloria instantly recognized her grandson. This had to be Joe.
Skylar's eyes welled up. "Grandma..."
"Have you figured it out, too? You know he's Ned, don't you? The news reported he's from Murida; that's why he returned. That's why you returned early, isn't it, Skye? I've lived long enough to see through many things. I understand there's more to this. Are you afraid I can't handle it? Is that why you didn't want to worry me?" Gloria's heart ached for Skylar, who had borne these burdens alone, pretending nothing was amiss. She hadn't wanted to burden Gloria.
Skylar had considered concealing the truth, but seeing Gloria, she realized she couldn't hide it any longer. She revealed Joe's current situation and explained his adoption of Ned's identity.
Gloria's expression softened, and she sighed in relief. "So, that's it! I thought he'd abandoned us, changed his name, and started a new life." The thought had pained her, especially for Skylar. Perhaps years of binge-watching dramas had fueled melodramatic assumptions.
Skylar felt a mix of amusement and helplessness. "He wouldn't do that."
"True. I should have more faith in Joe. He wouldn't abandon us. But has he regained any memories since seeing you?" Gloria asked.
Skylar shook her head. "No. The car accident three years ago caused severe brain damage. He may never recover his memories."
Gloria's face paled, then she smiled. "He's alive. That's what matters. Skye, you're not alone. I'll help you." She'd initially considered joining her late husband and Joe, but now she knew her time wasn't yet. Joe was still alive, and she was determined to help Skylar bring him home. The past few years had been difficult for her, but Skylar had endured even more.
"I'll work with you, Grandma, to get him home," Skylar said, hugging Gloria tightly. They found comfort in each other.
Meanwhile, in a well-appointed apartment with a stunning view, Joe emerged from the shower. After drying his hair, he glanced at his phone. Before showering, he'd read Skylar's message—a wedding photo of them, radiating happiness.
Looking at the photo of his near-identical doppelganger, he lit a cigarette, inhaling deeply. His mind filled with images of Skylar. This woman… her influence was incomprehensible.
