Chapter 1320

Joe still couldn't recall everything, but he couldn't deny the inexplicable pull he'd felt toward Skylar from the beginning. Something captivating resided in listening to her recount their past, whether it concerned Gloria or their journey from a blind date to a marriage he barely remembered. Skylar suddenly felt eyes on her. Turning, she found Joe's gaze fixed and unwavering. She smiled. Joe showed little outward expression, but internally, he was in turmoil.

On the drive home, Rosa's tears streamed down her cheeks, her gaze lost on the empty road ahead. She seemed compelled to release the frustration that had built within her. Calvin, watching her in the rearview mirror, pretended not to notice. He couldn't understand the drastic decline in Rosa's confidence. She and Ned had known each other since childhood, sharing years of memories and challenges. Even if Ned's affections wavered, as some men's do, he would never abandon her. Yet, Rosa's recent behavior was unsettling; her actions pushed Ned away instead of drawing him closer. Calvin worried about Ned's displeasure.

"Are you laughing at me? Do you think I deserve to be left behind?" Rosa asked, her eyes red and brimming with emotion. She felt Calvin's silent scrutiny, and the thought of even an assistant finding her situation amusing ignited a surge of anger.

Calvin quickly replied, "No, Ms. Reese, that's not what I think at all. Mr. Sowle would never abandon you. You're engaged, your wedding is approaching. He would never leave you, so please don't overthink it."

"You saw how he looked at Skylar! He looked like he'd lost his mind. He likes women like her. Maybe I've become nothing more than an annoying obstacle," Rosa said, biting her lip. She wasn't being overly dramatic; she genuinely felt like a joke. After more than three years, she wondered if her efforts had been futile. Calvin was speechless; he felt any further comment would only worsen the situation.

Seeing Calvin's silence, Rosa sneered. "See? Even you can tell, can't you?"

Calvin pretended not to hear, concentrating on driving. He couldn't respond; Rosa was heartbroken and angry, and any opinion he offered would only complicate matters. Silence was the best course.

Gradually, Rosa calmed down. As her emotions subsided, regret set in. She realized she shouldn't have lost her composure and acted so pitifully in front of Joe; it only pushed him further toward Skylar. Worse, by storming out, she'd left them alone together.

Suddenly, Rosa shouted, "Pull over!"

Calvin slammed on the brakes. "Ms. Reese?"

Rosa bit her lip tightly. A few minutes later, she said, "Let's go."

Even though she felt she'd made a huge mistake, going back wasn't an option. Returning would only make her appear weak. She'd already humiliated herself enough. Her rational side helped her regain control. Even if Joe ended up with Skylar, it wouldn't change anything; his memory remained unreliable. As long as she remained Joe's loyal girlfriend, Skylar wouldn't be able to take him away.
