Chapter 134
Samuel and Peter rushed forward, one grabbing Skylar's wrist, the other blocking her path.
"Are you thinking of imprisoning me?" Skylar asked, her eyelids lifting slightly. Her gaze was cold as she met Peter's.
"It's for your own good," Peter said emotionlessly. "Stay home, and I'll arrange a meeting with Paul. Once things are settled between you, and you've received the money, you can do as you please. I'll even acknowledge you as my sister."
Samuel said to Peter, "To ensure nothing goes wrong, I'll get some drugs."
Peter nodded. Glancing at the time, he noted people were waiting for him at the office. He and Jeffrey needed to address pressing issues. As for Skylar, compliance was best; otherwise, his patience would run out. They planned to drug both Skylar and Paul later.
Skylar's eyes hardened. She pulled out her phone, displaying a call screen. "Paul has heard your plans," she said. "Would you like to explain them to him yourselves?"
Peter and Samuel's expressions changed. "Skylar!" they shouted in unison, their voices loud enough to be heard throughout the detached villa.
Jeffrey, having overheard, paled, about to speak when Paul's voice came from Skylar's phone: "Scheming against me? Even as an assistant, I have many ways to deal with you. What kind of man bullies a woman? I've recorded everything. I'm not finished with your family yet!" His voice was cold and menacing.
Skylar, aware of her family's true nature, had, after messaging Joe, called Paul to let him hear their plans. She felt he deserved to know, believing she'd done the right thing.
"Paul, please, let us explain. Things aren't as they seem. Let's meet," Peter pleaded urgently.
"Ms. Sullivan, shall I call the police?" Paul asked politely.
His respectful tone toward Skylar was unexpected. "No need," Peter said quickly. "We're her family; we won't make things difficult for her. She's free to go; we never considered restricting her."
Having previously been high-handed, Peter was now humble. The Williams family couldn't afford further setbacks. Police involvement would only invite further trouble. He'd underestimated Skylar.
Under their watchful gaze, Skylar left. Afterwards, a somber mood settled over them.
Kenny frowned, stepping forward. "Why do I feel something's wrong? Why is Paul so polite to Skylar?"
