Chapter 150
Meeting Annie in real life, Maisy found her even more elegant. Maisy felt inferior, aware that her family background and education didn't compare to Annie's. Her own disheveled appearance made her hesitant to even look at Annie; it was embarrassing. Furthermore, Annie was the object of Joe's affections. Maisy felt a mixture of admiration and jealousy.
Annie glanced briefly at Maisy before turning to Skylar. Her smile hid a subtle calculation. Annie had investigated Skylar, learning that Skylar grew up in the countryside and was the Williamses' true daughter, though they didn't favor her. Skylar was currently working on Alexander's team—not as Joe's secretary. This implied a relationship Annie suspected existed between Skylar and Alexander. Alexander's team had extremely strict requirements; few qualified individuals were accepted. Skylar, having graduated from university less than two years ago, in an unrelated field, was an unlikely candidate. This led Maisy to suspect Joe's influence.
"Ms. Sullivan, we meet again," Annie said.
Skylar smiled and nodded. "Hello, Ms. Silver."
What luck! Maisy thought. Meeting the person Joe cared about? Was this mall really that upscale?
"Since we're here, let's grab a cup of coffee, if you have time, Ms. Sullivan," Annie suggested.
Skylar smiled. "Maybe next time. I'm shopping with my brother and have to work in half an hour."
"We didn't exchange WhatsApp contacts last time. Let's do so now. We can arrange to meet up when you're free," Annie said, taking out her phone.
Skylar initially wanted to avoid interacting extensively with Annie, but refusing contact would seem deliberate.
After Annie left, Maisy asked, "Since when have you known Annie? How did you meet?"
Annie was clearly outside their social circle, while Maisy was within Joe's. Maisy found it baffling that someone from Annie's circle would treat Skylar so politely.
Skylar gave Maisy a cold glance. "You're too nosy."
Chapter 150 (continued)
"Don't you dare yell at Skylar again! I'd rather be beaten until I'm hospitalized than take my college entrance exams!" Harvey shouted, pointing at Maisy. He had witnessed Maisy bullying Skylar.
Maisy glared. "Harvey! I'm your real sister!"
"Then leave the Williamses. If you come back, I'll acknowledge you as my sister. You can't have it both ways—enjoying the Williamses' wealth while looking down on us. Are we puppets for you to control? You dumb bitch." Harvey's temper flared, and he swore.
Maisy's anger exploded. "I'll complain to Mom this instant!"
"Fine by me," Harvey said, unafraid. Their family, unlike the Williamses, were strong-willed. Harvey had never feared tattling since childhood.
"You can deceive the Williamses because you live with them. Do you think you can deceive anyone else?" Skylar added sarcastically. "Harvey has always been good-tempered and gentle. The fact that he lost his temper with you shows how despicable you are."
Harvey nodded. "I only lose my temper with shameless people."
Maisy rarely lost arguments; someone usually defended her. However, the friend she'd arranged to meet hadn't arrived.
