Chapter 160
Joe enjoyed this moment. He could sleep soundly, waking up next to someone he felt safe with. He decided to talk to Skylar, seeing her as his wife if she could accept a simple life without the elusive notion of romance.
After waking up, Skylar had breakfast with Gloria. She then remembered her promise to visit Caleb at the hospital. She called, apologized, and promised to visit him the next day. She sensed his disappointment, however, and decided to bring him a gift. After hanging up, she hurried to Janine's house.
On the way, she stopped at the supermarket and bought groceries. Janine was already waiting; Harvey was studying.
As Skylar entered, Janine said, "You bought too many clothes for Harvey yesterday. He's still growing; they might not fit him for long. Plus, they were expensive. You've just started working. Spend your money on things you like."
Harvey had been lectured all morning. Janine was displeased with his purchase. Harvey regretted telling Janine.
"Mom, I've made quite a bit of money now. A few clothes won't hurt. Besides, Harvey looks handsome in them," Skylar persuaded. "It's worth the money."
"I'm worried you're not treating yourself well," Janine said, understanding Skylar best. She knew Skylar silently shouldered burdens, never complaining. This money hadn't been easy to earn.
"Skye, let's return them," Harvey said, feeling he didn't need to dress well.
Skylar said to Harvey, "Since we've bought them, just wear them." Turning to Janine, she continued, "Mom, I didn't mistreat myself. Look at what I bought."
"I'll cook some of my signature dishes for both of you. Skye, take some with you when you visit Charles. He's been so busy lately; he even complained about missing home-cooked meals."
"Okay, Mom," Skylar replied.
If Harvey hadn't had homework, she would have brought him along.
Charles had recently joined a new film crew as the fourth male lead. It was his first role, and he cherished the opportunity. He worked incredibly hard. Who knew? He might become the lead someday. In Skylar's opinion, his acting skills were far superior to Samuel's.
Skylar also bought designer clothes and shoes for Charles, intending to surprise him.
After lunch, Skylar took Janine's lunchbox and hurried to Charles's film set at Willowbrook Manor. Their crew's guide or investor seemed connected to George.
Skylar knew the route; it took about fifty minutes to arrive. She called Charles, who asked her to wait ten minutes. He had just finished shooting his scenes; only night scenes remained, so he had time to stroll with her. After a few minutes, a security guard recognized her.
The guard asked, "Are you Ms. Sullivan?"
"Yes, I am."
"I thought you looked familiar. Are you trying to get into the mansion? Mr. Querbach said you're welcome to visit anytime. You can drive right in."
