Chapter 194

“Are you ready for a good beating?” Skylar rolled up her sleeves and put her bag aside, assuming a fighting stance.

Christopher was surprised. Then he accused, “Skylar, you’ve changed. You’re no longer the kind and pure Skylar I used to know!”

“Kindness doesn’t work on you,” Skylar replied, flexing her wrists and ankles. She immediately lifted her foot and kicked him. Christopher didn’t expect this; the kick threw him off balance, nearly sending him sprawling.

Clutching his stomach, he looked at Skylar as if deeply hurt. “You’ve really changed!”

Skylar walked away without another glance. In Christopher’s eyes, she had become heartless since falling for someone else. His eyes reddened. He swore Skylar hadn’t seen the last of him.

Ten minutes later, Skylar drove away, unaffected by the encounter. However, Christopher’s shamelessness still surprised her. She realized she had been blind. Considering his haggard appearance, she guessed he was struggling financially, especially with Amelia needing surgery. The consequences of his actions would be severe.

Returning to Galaxy Villa, Skylar made a simple dinner. Afterward, she worked on her Amazon online shop.

Before bed, she received a WhatsApp message from Joe: “I have a friend who wants your help selecting an item to ward off bad energy. Money is not an issue.”

Skylar asked, “Is it someone we met at the club that day?”

Joe replied, “Yes, it’s Rowan.”

Joe, having just finished work, stood by his floor-to-ceiling window, gazing at the cityscape.

Skylar responded, “I can help choose a protective item, but he shouldn’t rely on it too much. He needs a full check-up at the hospital. I suggest you go too.”

Joe’s mouth twitched as he texted back, “I don’t need to.”

Skylar retorted, “Don’t be too confident in your immunity.”

Joe raised an eyebrow, found a digital copy of his medical report, and sent it to her.

Christopher's assumption of the man she was with had shifted from Paul to Joe. How had he guessed it? “Are you done? If so, get lost,” Skylar said expressionlessly. She felt calm; a scumbag like him wasn't worthy of an emotional response.

Christopher’s heart ached. “You used to say you loved me, that you wanted to marry me. We vowed never to be apart. Are you aware you’re breaking that vow?”

“Oh, I see. Your acting skills and ability to twist facts have improved after sleeping around with Maisy,” Skylar retorted sarcastically. Anyone associated with Maisy seemed shameless and despicable.

“I… What happened with Maisy isn’t what you think. I was deceived. She made me think I liked her, but I’ve always loved you. Skylar, we both made mistakes. Let’s forgive each other,” Christopher pleaded. “I’m the only one who truly cares for you, loves you, and wants to marry you.”

His eyes were bloodshot. Once, she had looked at him with love; now, only coldness and indifference remained.

“No, you made an unforgivable mistake. I didn’t.” Skylar regretted those seven years. She had been blind, but she wouldn't cling to those memories.

The security guard noticed their interaction. “Ms. Sullivan, do you need help?”

“It’s okay. I just ran into a mental patient,” Skylar explained with a smile.

Relieved, the guard glanced at Christopher, nodding. He did look unwell. The guard thought his good looks were wasted on him.

“What are you looking at?” Christopher yelled.

The guard rolled his eyes. “Leave. Don’t think I won’t hit you just because you’re mentally ill. If you bother Ms. Sullivan again, I will.”

Skylar knew Alexander’s security guards were former soldiers, skilled fighters. Beating Christopher would be easy.

Christopher couldn't believe he was being humiliated by a security guard. He felt close to a mental breakdown.

“Get lost! She’s my girlfriend. We’re just arguing!” Christopher shouted.

The guard looked at Skylar, who remained indifferent. Clearly, he wasn’t her boyfriend. The guard wondered about the prevalence of unstable people.

“Skylar, we need to talk. Let’s go to that fondue restaurant,” Christopher said, calming down. He couldn’t show his anger; he still had the drug Maisy gave him. Earlier, he’d hesitated, not wanting to worsen things. But now… Skylar would blame herself for not listening.

“Save your breath, Christopher.” The word “fondue” made Skylar nauseous. She used to enjoy it because Christopher had little money; it was their most extravagant meal.

“No, I can’t let go. I never agreed to break up. You don’t want a scene at your workplace, do you? Come with me,” Christopher said, regaining his calm. He wanted Skylar to remember their good memories.
