Chapter 197

Natalie frowned. "Honey, why do I smell perfume on you?" The scent was familiar.

Jeremy pursed his lips. "Do I? It must be the perfume the secretary was wearing. We were in the same elevator this morning."

"There was a beautiful woman who just left. Is she your new secretary?" Natalie didn't dwell on it, but disliked the scent. If she weren't confident in Jeremy's fidelity, she would resent him for hiring a prettier secretary.

Jeremy responded with a faint, "Yeah."

Seeing his indifferent attitude, Natalie decided not to overthink it. She smiled. "Don't be so aloof with your employees, Mr. Hughes. You might scare them away."

"Isn't it a good thing I'm only gentle with you?" Jeremy ruffled her hair dotingly.

Natalie laughed. "Of course! I'm a jealous woman. I get green with envy easily. My husband is so handsome; I think many women have their eyes on you."

"Don't worry. Even if they do, it's useless," Jeremy chuckled.

His words filled Natalie's heart with joy. "Me too. Many men pursue me, but I only have eyes for you, Mr. Hughes!"

"If anyone else pursues you, tell them you're Mrs. Hughes and order them to scram," Jeremy said coldly.

Seeing his jealousy, Natalie giggled mischievously. "I'm just teasing you. I announced my marriage on social media. Who would dare pursue a married woman?"

Jeremy's tense expression softened.

After work, Skylar was going to Pearlhall Residence to see Gloria, but received a photo from a former classmate. The classmate had seen Steven at work. Christopher was blocking Steven's path, kneeling before him.

The photo clearly showed Steven's shock and Christopher's humiliation. Skylar couldn't believe Christopher was bothering Steven. She took a deep breath, gripped the steering wheel, and made a U-turn. Traffic was light, and she arrived quickly.

Steven looked at Christopher indifferently, surrounded by a crowd.

"Help me, Steven. I beg you. Skylar and I have been together for years. We can't end like this," Christopher pleaded.

He hadn't expected Steven to remain unmoved. He'd been pleading for almost half an hour, with several classmates urging Steven to help, but Steven refused.

Steven's stance was firm. "You can't force matters of the heart. You and Skylar are no longer meant to be. You didn't cherish her; it's too late to cry now. No matter what you say or who you bring, I won't agree to you and Skylar being together. Moreover, Skylar is married and has arranged for me to meet her brother-in-law soon."

Having experienced Christopher's betrayal, Steven planned to warn his brother-in-law, promising to protect Skylar.

Christopher lowered his head, his eyes filled with malice.

A male ex-classmate spoke up, "Don't be so unsympathetic. Christopher and Skylar were together for years, the golden couple in school. They weren't about to get married? They shouldn't break up over a trivial matter." Others joined in, trying to guilt-trip Steven.

Seeing this, Skylar walked over to them.
