No wonder Peter and Samuel had looked so grumpy after their last meeting. Sadie now understood Maisy’s anger and subsequent illness. Skylar was treating them like idiots, not even bothering to concoct a better lie.

“Skye, you really disappoint me,” Jeffrey said, his patience exhausted.

Skylar scoffed. “And what has that got to do with me? Stop following me, or I’ll call security.” She continued walking toward the building.

Sadie tried to grab her, but Skylar was too fast. Sadie’s outstretched arm hung mid-air, her embarrassment palpable. She could only watch Skylar enter the office building.

Staring at the guards, Sadie flushed with anger. Turning, she saw Jeffrey’s gloomy expression.

“We didn’t raise her, so she doesn’t care about us,” she said. “What should we do now, Jeff? She refuses to tell the truth. That suggests her sugar daddy’s identity must be hidden. Could it be…” Her eyes widened in disbelief.

“Could it be… Jeff, Mr. Gardner Senior always rejects applicants using connections. Unskilled people never get in. But Skye did. That means her connection is related to Mr. Gardner Senior. Could she be seeing his son? He only has two sons. His elder son is abroad, while his younger son, John, lives in Jipsburg. Could it be him?”
