Chapter 242
Joe, taking a coffee break after his workout, checked his phone and was stunned by Skylar's Instagram post. The photo showed her with a tall, upright-looking man. The height difference accentuated her petite frame, while the man gazed at her with tenderness.
It was a simple photo, but Joe sensed the man's affection for Skylar and her happiness. He wondered if this was the man she'd planned to meet that day.
The photo caused a stir. Caleb, who knew Elliott (the man in the photo) from a previous, unsettling interrogation, felt conflicted. Elliott had investigated a case involving a friend of Caleb's who had died, and the interrogation had been incredibly intense. Caleb had almost confessed to things he hadn't done. He wondered if Elliott was Skylar's husband.
Christopher, blocked by Skylar on Instagram, received a screenshot of the post from mutual high school friends who knew about his breakup with Skylar. Seeing the photo, he dropped the inspection reports he was holding, scattering them on the floor. The man wasn't Joe (the man Maisy had mentioned), and Christopher didn't recognize Elliott, who didn't look like a wealthy businessman. He realized Maisy had misled him.
Chapter 242 (Continued)
Maisy was shocked by the photo. The man wasn't Joe. Had they been wrong? She'd known Skylar wouldn't win Joe's affection. Keeping her doubts to herselfโthe Sullivans were presentโshe simply clicked on the Instagram post after a friend shared it.
Seeing the photo, Maisy was ecstatic. This meant she no longer needed to appease the Sullivans. Her previous anger over Skylar and Joe's supposed relationship was unfounded. She consequently reduced her efforts to please the Sullivans.
Janine, noticing Maisy put down her phone, said, "Maisy, we have a room here. You can come back whenever you want."
Maisy inwardly rolled her eyes. She wanted to rebuke Janine's lack of self-awareness, but refrained. It would be better to corner Skylar. With the Sullivans present, she could try to deceive them.
"Okay, I'll come back to live with you after Mrs. Williams gets better. I just wonder if Charles and Harvey will welcome me," Maisy said, glancing at Charles and Harvey.
