Chapter 244
Sadie was shocked. "Has our company reached this point? Must we sell off our properties?"
"We should," Jeffrey replied. "The company won't last long." He had never imagined he'd be in this situation. For years, he'd been arrogant, believing he was firmly established in Jipsburg. He'd even planned to elevate the Williams family to Jipsburg's elite. Unfortunately, things hadn't gone as planned.
Sadie panicked. Seeing her children's complaints in the group chat, and their apparent lack of awareness regarding the seriousness of the situation, she grew increasingly frightened. If their family was truly in trouble, they could face future debt. A premonition of disaster washed over her.
After lunch, Skylar checked her phone. Seeing inquiries from Steven and other friends, she realized Natalie had used her phone to post a photo on Instagram—a photo that had caused a considerable uproar. Skylar knew Natalie was trying to help her get revenge; Natalie had told her Instagram friends that Skylar had moved on and was in a new relationship.
Skylar briefly explained her relationship with Elliott to her family and friends. Then, she contacted Joe to clarify the situation.
"That Instagram photo was posted by my friend. She doesn't know I'm married. That man was her cousin."
Joe replied, "Okay."

After receiving his response, Skylar put her phone away.
"Did the photo overwhelm them? Many people wanted to see you embarrassed, so I used it to disappoint them! I wanted to show them you're popular with men!" Natalie leaned closer and whispered.
Skylar pinched Natalie's cheek. "That post overwhelmed me too."
"That's nothing. Look at Elliott! Don't be so guarded; he's really good. If he treats you badly, our whole family will deal with him," Natalie chuckled.
"I'm married, Nat," Skylar revealed, worried Natalie would set her up on another blind date.
Natalie didn't believe her. "Stop kidding me."
"It's true. I'll show you my marriage certificate someday."
"I don't believe you. I know you well. You wouldn't have an impromptu wedding. You and Christopher just broke up. You needed to recover and find a job. How could you have had time to get married? And what man would make you have a flash marriage without hesitation? If you're not interested in Elliott, I'll introduce you to someone else."
Elliott emerged from the restroom. Seeing the two whispering, he didn't interrupt.
Skylar regretted not having her marriage certificate. She resolved to bring it next time she saw Natalie.
After responding to Skylar, Joe made a call. "You can stop investigating." The man in the photo was, it turned out, insignificant.
