Chapter 250
“Your great-grandson’s room is next door. He was also affected by this traditional dress,” Skylar explained.
Frank was shocked and remained silent for a long time; Nigel had given Grace the dress.
“The people who made the traditional dress intended to harm others. Over the past century, many people have died after wearing it,” Skylar explained, her expression complicated. “What Mrs. Doherty Senior and your great-grandson saw in their dreams were likely those who once wore this dress.”
Viola had once remarked that many people in the world harbored evil intentions. Such intentions stemmed from desires. She thought of Frank’s youngest son, Nigel, who had recently broken in. However, she felt unqualified to interfere in Frank’s family affairs.
“What should we do with this traditional dress?” Joe asked.
Skylar gazed at him. “Burn it.”
“Oh… okay.” Frank’s face paled; he looked dramatically older and weakened, but quickly recovered his composure. He was, after all, experienced with life’s ups and downs.
A few minutes later, Skylar and Joe left the Doherty Residence. On their way back to Galaxy Villa, Skylar voiced her concern: “Nigel, Mr. Doherty Senior’s youngest son, probably knows what’s wrong with the traditional dress.”
Joe nodded calmly. “Being an elite family in Jipsburg isn't as simple as it seems. There are many hidden, evil agendas to navigate. Are you scared?”
“No,” Skylar replied. “I was just thinking about the people who died because of that dress.” She couldn't help but recall its patterns and pearls. It was gorgeous and colorful; anyone wearing it would feel it fit perfectly.
Joe fell into thought, watching Skylar's solemn expression. He glanced at the red bracelet on his wrist.
“Mr. Doherty Senior will handle this matter. Don’t worry,” Joe said gently, comforting her.
Paul drove silently throughout the journey. Despite his impassive expression, he was shocked by Joe's treatment of Skylar. Hadn't Joe said he disliked her? Why did he seem to have fallen for her?
Just then, Skylar received a call from Gloria and answered immediately.
“Skye, Frank told us everything. What a terrifying dress! I also have a vintage dress from an old friend; it’s well-preserved, but I’m not sure if something is wrong with it.” Gloria sounded frightened.
At their age, few people could be trusted; those who could be might be conspiring against them, which was no different from hurting their feelings.
Skylar’s voice was soft and soothing. “Don’t worry, Grandma. There’s nothing like that at Pearlhall Residence. If someone gives you something in the future, keep it in the warehouse. We can examine it when I visit. You can count on me!”
“Oh, that’s right! The fright confused me. But I have you! There’s nothing to be afraid of!” Gloria giggled, settling back on her bed.
Skylar grinned. “Yes, you have me.”
After hanging up, she noticed Joe looking at her. His gaze held something unreadable.
“What’s wrong?” she asked, meeting his meaningful gaze.
“It’s nothing.” Joe stared at Skylar for a few seconds. His gaze lingered on her lips before he looked away, out the car window.
She found him odd. He constantly shifted between indifference and enthusiasm. Unable to understand him, she stopped thinking and looked outside.
It was already 10:00 PM; few cars were on the road. The night, under the streetlights, felt peaceful. Skylar felt sleepy. Leaning against the car, she soon fell asleep.
Seeing this, Joe glanced at Paul.
