Chapter 281
Maisy's words changed Kenny's expression. He immediately strode over, embraced her, and lowered his head to kiss her.
"I don't hate you, Maisy. I like you."
As soon as Kenny spoke, Maisy deepened the kiss. She knew she could charm almost any man, and having grown up with Kenny, she knew him intimately.
Later that day, Skylar received a call from Steven as she was leaving work. He told her he had the weekend off and asked her to come home; he had good news. Charles would be there, and Harvey had just finished his college entrance exams, so the whole family could celebrate.
After agreeing, Skylar first visited Gloria at Pearlhall Residence. After exchanging a few words with Gloria, the housekeeper, Agatha, handed Skylar a bowl of soup.
"Mrs. Martin," Agatha said with a smile, "this beef and lentil soup is packed with nutrients. I heard you donated blood several times recently, so you might be feeling weak. This will nourish you."
Gloria added, "Just have some; you might not finish such a large bowl."
Gloria's admiration for Skylar grew with every passing moment. She found Skylar remarkable. Joe was already smitten, and great-grandchildren seemed increasingly plausible. Joe, she knew, wouldn't even look at someone he didn't like, let alone touch them. Given his status, he'd been pursued by countless women over the years, enough to have many great-grandchildren already. But none compared to Skylar.
Skylar accepted the bowl and took a sip. The hearty and comforting soup perfectly blended the earthiness of the lentils with the tender beef. Agatha clearly poured her heart into making it.
"This is delicious. Thank you, Agatha," Skylar said sincerely. It truly was tasty. She hadn't expected medicinal soups to be so delicious.
Before her second chance at life, neither Sadie nor Jeffrey had shown much concern for Skylar's blood donations. They assumed her youth and health meant a quick recovery, never bothering to prepare nourishing soups. Gloria and Agatha's concern, however, was genuine.
"As long as you like it," Agatha replied. "I'll have someone send it to Galaxy Villa every day." She, too, wanted to treat Skylar well.
Joe arrived and witnessed this heartwarming scene. Gloria, upon seeing him, rolled her eyes disdainfully.
"Why are you just arriving now?" she asked.
"I had some matters to attend to this afternoon," he answered.
Gloria huffed. "You arrived at the airport at noon! Did you rush to the office? All you ever do is work! You should spend some time with Skylar." She knew her grandson well.
Skylar's thoughts drifted… The other morning, she'd woken to find him in her room, but couldn't recall how he'd asked her to move in. Still groggy from sleep, she'd agreed without much thought. However, he'd left on a business trip the day she moved and had been gone for two days. She expected him to be away longer, so his return was a surprise.
Joe noticed Skylar staring at him and looked back.
"Is the soup good?" he asked.
The bowl, half full, remained in Skylar's hands. "Yes, it's delicious."
Joe nodded. "That's good to hear."
Gloria and Agatha exchanged astonished glances. They'd never seen Joe show such concern for anyone. Then, to their even greater surprise, he said, "Grandma, unless it's urgent, let's leave."
Gloria, mid-sip of water, nearly choked.
