Chapter 283
Charles texted, "What are you doing, Skye?"
His friend chuckled, seeing the WhatsApp message. "You care deeply about your sister, huh?"
"She's my sister. If I don't care about her, who will?" Charles replied matter-of-factly.
"Doesn't your sister have a boyfriend?" his friend asked.
He remembered a photo of Skylar on Charles's phone; he'd been captivated and asked Charles for an introduction. Charles had mentioned Skylar had a boyfriend.
Charles's expression turned cold at the mention of Skylar's boyfriend. "That guy's a jerk. They broke up," he spat.
His friend's eyes lit up, but Charles quickly dashed his hopes. "You and my sister aren't compatible. You have too many ex-girlfriends, and my sister is too naive to see through you."
His friend realized he didn't stand a chance with Skylar. However, he quickly realized he wasn't one to give up everything for one woman.
Charles's friend responded, "Well, if it's not meant to be, then it's not. Anyway, what happened between you and Samuel? He's the second male lead, and you're just a supporting role, so don't confront him directly. I heard he's petty and has targeted you before. If you don't show him respect, he might make things difficult for you in the industry. Listen to me, okay? Show him some courtesy now. With your acting skills, you can go to greater heights and crush him then. But for now, put up with it."
Charles's expression remained frosty. "I'll deal with that when it comes. I won't tolerate him now."
His friend was speechless. "Alright, suit yourself. I heard his family's company is facing trouble lately. He used to rely on being a rich kid with industry connections, but he's in for a tough ride." Few people liked Samuel; he was too arrogant.
After reading Charles's message, Skylar replied, "I'm having dinner."
As she sat down, she noticed the stew base and ingredients were already on the table. She looked up and saw Joe engrossed in his phone.
"Why didn't you start without me?" Skylar asked.
"I was waiting for you."
Joe set his phone aside and slowly added ingredients to the stew pot. Skylar stared at his slender fingers holding the cutlery, momentarily captivated. She couldn't help but recall his touch that night.
Skylar gulped before adding her preferred ingredients. Joe exuded sophistication, even while dining; he seemed elegant and dignified. However, Skylar's love of food quickly took precedence.
Her attention shifted to the food. The stew restaurant's ingredients were incredibly fresh, including items unavailable elsewhere. Skylar feasted to her heart's content. The food was amazing.
"I heard from a friend that this chain restaurant is popular, but the prices are outrageous," Skylar exclaimed. "I always thought it was just for the ambiance. I can't believe how delicious it is!"
Unfortunately, it wasn't a place she could frequent; every bite felt expensive. She thought about bringing her family sometime.
Joe smiled. "If you like it here, you can come often."
Skylar shook her head. "It's too expensive. Once in a while is fine."
"You're Mrs. Martin. As long as it's a Martin Group restaurant, you can dine for free. Come whenever you want."
Skylar's expression faltered. Her status as Mrs. Martin was uncertain.
She'd thought about it carefully for the past few days. That night, Joe had lost control, not because he liked her, but because they were both under the influence of drugs. Perhaps one day, Joe would meet a woman he fell for at first sight. When that time came, Skylar would let him go.
