Chapter 290
โSomething urgent came up at the office; I need to head over there first. Iโll be home tonight,โ Jeremy said.
His voice sounded cold to Natalie, sending chills through the phone and into her heart. Disappointment welled up inside her, and her eyes reddened.
โWill you come home right after work tonight?โ
Normally, she could be playful and carefree with him. But recently, she felt a wall between them, as if he no longer cared as much.
โYes. If nothing comes up, Iโll be home after work,โ Jeremyโs voice softened, as though the thought of coming home was something he looked forward to.
Tears of frustration and sadness streamed down Natalieโs face. She didnโt understand her emotional response. Business trips and going to the office were normal. She couldnโt expect him to comfort her at work as he did at home.
โOkay, Iโll wait for you,โ she said softly.
After ending the call, she felt lost and wandered back to the kitchen. Looking at the lavish breakfast she had eagerly prepared, she felt even more disheartened. She couldnโt shake the feeling that Jeremyโs love for her had diminished, and that he was growing distant.
Thinking about Nancy (the text previously mentioned Nancy, this should be clarified for context), a sudden, unsettling thought crossed her mind: โCould Jeremy be getting tired of me?โ They hadnโt been intimate in quite some time. For a couple married just over a year, going one or two months without sex seemed unusual. While Jeremy had been traveling a lot for work recently, there had also been plenty of nights when he was home. Looking back, he always seemed exhausted and went to bed early.
Natalie had been understanding, knowing how busy he was. But now that the thought had crossed her mind, she couldnโt dismiss it so easily. Yet, it seemed impossible. They had known each other since childhood and were so familiar. Even when various celebrities pursued him, he hadnโt given them a second glance. He only ever had eyes for her.
Natalie bit her lip, trying to reassure herself that Jeremy was simply overworked.
In the car, Victor Kirk discreetly glanced at the rearview mirror, catching sight of Jeremy and Annabelle locked in a passionate kiss. He sighed inwardly. Natalie had no idea what was happening.
Victor had witnessed Jeremy and Natalieโs love story firsthand. He knew how much Jeremy adored Natalie and how deeply Natalie loved him. Their relationship had always seemed enviable. But now, shortly after their marriage, Jeremy was having an affair with Annabelle. What if Natalie found out? She would be devastated.
Yet, as Jeremyโs driver, he had to remain silent. His job depended on it, and he needed to support his family. What happened in the car had to stay there.
Annabelle was the type of woman many men would find irresistible. She would likely make a name for herself in the entertainment industry. Victor had worked by Jeremyโs side for years and had seen even more beautiful women try to pursue Jeremy. So why had he given in this time?
โCome to my place. I want to cook lunch for you, Mr. Hughes. You havenโt tasted my cooking yet, right?โ Annabelleโs breathing was a little uneven; her voice was full of charming inquiry.
Any man would melt at the sound of her voice.
Jeremy frowned slightly, but under Annabelleโs expectant gaze, he agreed. โOkay.โ
Delighted, Annabelle leaned over to kiss him. โIโve never cooked for a man before. Youโre the first! But my cooking isnโt that good. I hope you donโt mind.โ
Annabelleโs reliance on him made Jeremyโs eyes darken.
