Chapter 306
Skylar was suddenly struck by a realization. It hit her that it was around the same time in her previous life when she had her accident. But this time, Sadie was the one in the crash because of Skylar's absence. Despite many things changing since Skylar's rebirth, the accident felt like a destined, unavoidable event.
On the other end of the phone, Jeffrey's urgency grew as Skylar remained silent. He continued, "No matter how upset you are right now, or how much you might hate us, you have to come here right now! Your mother is in the operating room as we speak! Are you listening? You have to come immediately!"
The phone was abruptly taken from Jeffrey. Kenny's voice followed: "Skylar, we're not making this up. The situation is critical. Mom has been in surgery for an hour. We don't have all the details, but when she was brought in after the accident, she was covered in blood and in bad shape. So, no matter how you feel about us, you need to come to the hospital now."
Skylar snapped out of her thoughts. Her expression turned cool as she replied tersely, "Alright."
At the hospital, the emergency light outside the operating room remained lit. The Williamses waited anxiously, their eyes glued to the closed door. Jeffrey's face was drained of color. He was worn down by the stress of the Williams Group, and now this unexpected accident had occurred. He was dumbfounded. How could this have happened out of nowhere? And judging by the doctors' expressions, Sadie's injuries seemed severe.
"Don't worry, Dad. Mom will be okay," Maisy said. Although visibly shaken, she tried to comfort Jeffrey, maintaining her facade as a considerate daughter. "A car accident it shouldn't be too serious, or it could affect us all." Maisy felt uneasy as she pondered.
Jeffrey felt slightly eased; in moments like these, it was clear who the more dependable daughter wasโMaisy. Kenny, standing beside Maisy, softened at her display of empathy.
"Did they catch the driver?" Samuel asked. He was enraged and looked like he wanted to take matters into his own hands and punish the driver himself.
"He's been charged. Don't worry. He won't get away with it," Peter nodded, looking tired and worn out.
Samuel turned to Kenny. "Did Skylar really agree to come? It's been nearly half an hour now. Why isn't she here yet? Where does she live? Why would it take this long? There shouldn't be much traffic at this hour."
"Let's give her a little more time," Kenny said with a hint of resignation.
Samuel complained, "Does Skylar really think we want her here? She's lucky she has our family's blood in her veins. Otherwise, who does she think she is? It's our misfortune to have a sister like her!"
Just then, Skylar arrived. She leaned against the corner with a cold smile while listening to the Williamses' complaints.
"Alright, enough complaining. Your mother is still in the operating room, and we don't know how she's doing. What's the point of arguing here?" Jeffrey scolded angrily. He was clearly frustrated by Samuel's words, and Skylar always irked him.
Samuel fell silent.
