Chapter 31

Joe and Skylar simultaneously looked away.

"You can deal with this," Joe said, looking at Paul. He then strolled out of the main office doors, having only briefly passed through the area.

Paul knew about Joe and Skylar's secret marriage and their desire to keep it private. This is why he couldn't formally greet Skylar.

However, Joe's decision to leave the matter to Paul indicated his protectiveness of Skylar. Ironically, Skylar hadn't been bullied; in fact, she had physically subdued someone she perceived as a wrongdoer.

Still, Sadie was ultimately at fault for mistreating Skylar and the unfortunate coincidence of Joe's presence.

Paul ordered, "Check the surveillance footage to see if these women framed our employee. If so, call the police immediately."

This immediately rattled the manager.

Sadie's arrogant expression vanished. "What?"

Even Maisy paled in shock. "Mr. Martin may have asked you to handle our case, but do you seriously plan to resolve this in this way?"

Skylar subtly acknowledged Paul's support with a neutral nod.

Janine thanked Paul: "Thank you for believing me."

Paul's tone shifted to stern as he addressed the manager. "As for you, this incident demonstrates your unprofessionalism and inability to remain impartial and unbiased.

"Go collect your next month's salary from the finance department, then I want your resignation."

The manager, who had just texted the office group chat asking someone to review the elevator's surveillance footage, was stunned by his immediate dismissal. This job, with its high salary and excellent work environment, was the best he'd had in years. He couldn't believe he'd been fired for defending hotel guests.

Meanwhile, Sadie and Maisy panicked.

Sadie glared at Skylar and Janine, regretting her previous six months of accommodating Skylar.

She felt betrayed by Skylar's alliance with Janine. The betrayal enraged her.

Yet, she refused to involve the police, as the surveillance cameras had caught her red-handed.

Her eyes darted downward as she exclaimed, "Gosh! What's my ring doing here? This is a misunderstanding.

"I didn't lose my ring, so you don't need to check the footage or call the police. It's my mistake."

Maisy, tolerating the pain of her slapped cheek, played along. "Oh, it was in your bag, Mom. It seems this was all a misunderstanding."

"A misunderstanding, huh?" Skylar saw through their act, her expression emotionless.

This behavior mirrored their past actions; they always claimed misunderstandings after being caught. They'd gotten away with it before, even telling Skylar not to be offended. Skylar had previously forgiven them easily, viewing them as family.

Knowing Sadie and Maisy would never admit fault, Skylar stated stoically, "It's best we settle this with the police present."

Paul had previously investigated Skylar's relationship with the Williams family, reports indicating her support and desire to join them. However, the current situation was entirely different.

He then remembered Joe's recent order to withdraw support from the Williams family. It seemed Skylar and the Williams family were no longer on good terms.

"What on earth are you trying to do, Skye?" Sadie hissed, anger and anxiety rising. Neither appeasement nor confrontation seemed to work on Skylar.
