Chapter 318
Sadie was on the verge of a breakdown. How could this have happened? How could she, Sadie Coleman—always the epitome of elegance and power, among friends and family—be confined to a bed, reliant on others for the most basic needs?
“Quick, all of you! Money isn't an issue. We can afford the best doctors in Jispsburg!” she shrieked.
Kenny and his brothers watched helplessly as Sadie remained hysterical, oblivious to her circumstances.
Feeling weary and frustrated, Jeffrey urged gently, “Darling, we’re at the finest hospital in Jispsburg. The surgeon is the best. We’ve spared no expense. You survived a very severe accident. It’s a miracle you’re alive. I know it’s hard to accept, but we’re all here for you.”
“No… no… I want my legs back!” Sadie cried, her voice strained.
Sadie's protests were feeble, but her desperation was overwhelming—a side the Williamses had never seen, deeply disturbing and unsettling them. The situation was irrevocable; this was their cruel reality.
“Darling, please calm down. Getting agitated won’t help your recovery. You’ve just undergone major surgery; your body needs rest,” Jeffrey advised, frowning.
Peter found Sadie's shrieks annoying. “Mom, you’ve always been so strong. Just try to accept what’s happened. Causing a scene will only make things harder for everyone.”
Sadie stared at her husband and children, seeing their pain and their impatience. A sharp pang shot through her heart. Did they truly understand? She’d just been amputated!
Meanwhile, Skylar settled into her hotel room. After unpacking, she slipped into the sundress she'd brought and ventured out. It was 8:30 p.m., and the streets were lively. The hotel, nestled in the city's heart, opened onto a vibrant pedestrian strip. Bright lights and the hum of activity surrounded her. She strolled leisurely, savoring local snacks that caught her eye. Since her rebirth, she hadn't had a moment so carefree. However, having eaten a hearty meal, she resisted further temptation. Instead, she admired local sundresses, picking out a few favorites.
Later, she found a seat in a bar. While enjoying a live performance, her phone buzzed. Skylar hadn't used her phone much since arriving in Korel City, only for quick transactions. She wouldn't have noticed the incessant calls if she hadn't wanted to record the singer's performance. After noticing missed calls from Joe, she excused herself from the noisy bar. Outside, she answered the call.
“Where are you?” Joe’s voice was cold, but concerned.
“I went shopping and stopped by a bar. It was too noisy, and I didn’t hear my phone ring. Are you… done with your work?” Skylar glanced back at the bar, where a new singer had begun a quieter ballad.
“Send me your location and stay put,” Joe said firmly.
