Chapter 342

At the hospital, the doctor explained Jenny's condition to Joe. The surgery had been a success. However, Jenny was feeling downcast. This was affecting her recovery.

“This often happens when something is weighing on the patient’s mind,” the doctor explained. “So, we need you to talk to her, Mr. Martin.”

Joe went to the intensive care unit. Jenny was asleep, but she opened her eyes, sensing his presence. Seeing him, she thought she was dreaming. “Joe?”

She wondered if he truly cared. She felt he only had eyes for Skylar. Her eyes reddened, and grief filled her heart.

Joe saw her tears. “The doctor told me about your condition. Is something bothering you?”

Jenny bit her lip, her eyes welling up further. She knew she should keep some things to herself, but she shook her head. “I’m just afraid I won’t recover and will be a burden to you. Also, I’m graduating soon, and I’m worried this will affect it.”

Joe reassured her. “Don’t worry. Your surgery was a success. Your college contacted me; your graduation won’t be affected.”

Jenny wept. “Thanks, Joe.”

“Focus on your recovery. You’ll be discharged soon.”

Remembering Joe's affection for Skylar that morning, Jenny felt a pang of anxiety. Softly, she requested, “Can you keep me company, Joe?”

“Sure. I’ll stay with you until visiting hours end,” he agreed.

Her uneasiness dissipated. She felt irreplaceable to him; he readily complied with her request.

“Are you going back to Jipsburg soon?” Jenny asked.

He had put aside his heavy workload to be with her. That was something others could only dream of.

The thought brought a sweet smile to her face.

Joe nodded. “I’m going back in two days. Paul will handle everything else. Call him if you need anything.”

Chapter 342

He had asked Paul to book flights back to Jipsburg City for himself and Skylar. Skylar had mentioned returning in two days, and he decided to go with her.

Hearing this, Jenny pursed her lips. “Okay. I’ll look after myself. After graduation, I’ll return to Jipsburg. You won’t have to come to Korel City anymore. I can also take care of Grandma then.”

At the mention of Gloria, Joe’s gaze softened. “Alright. Take care of yourself.”

Jenny noticed he looked more refreshed. Smiling, she said, “It looks like you had a good rest, as I told you to. You seem to be in better condition today.”

Joe was startled. Remembering the intimacy with Skylar the previous night, and sleeping soundly in her arms, he realized that was why he felt so refreshed.

“Indeed, I slept well last night,” he admitted, his heart softening as he recalled the feeling of holding Skylar. Even his usually cold features seemed gentler.

Jenny thought his improved rest was due to her. “You should go to bed early. Your health is important. Staying up late every night will take its toll.”
