Chapter 350
Joe looked down at Skylar. "Have you fallen for me?"
Skylar's back stiffened, and she moved slightly away from him. They had spent the last few daysโฆ Besides, she clearly felt something for him; she believed few women could resist him. However, she remembered their marriage registration and their recent agreement.
Her gaze fell on the sunset. "I thought we weren't supposed to talk about love. I've always kept that in mind."
Joe's deep gaze intensified; his smile faded. "That's true. We aren't supposed to talk about love."
Skylar's eyelashes fluttered. A pang of pain tugged at her heart. Taking a deep breath, she pretended nothing had happened. An even greater distance grew between them.
The boat quickly returned to the pier. After docking, Joe and Skylar drove back to the hotel and had dinner sent to their room. Joe showered and changed into casual clothes. As he put on his watch, Skylar emerged from the bathroom.
Joe glanced at her. In an emotionless tone, he said, "I'm going to the hospital."
"Sure," Skylar nodded, gently drying her hair.
After Joe left, Skylar looked at the door, then away, and picked up her hair dryer.
Twenty minutes later, Jenny was in the hospital, reading encouraging messages from friends. Their concern meant little to her; she most wanted to see Joe. However, he had been out to sea with Skylar and might not visit.
The caretaker, Camilla Pallas, was very attentive.
Jenny glanced at Camilla. "It's almost bedtime. You should rest, too."
"Oh, it's fine. I'll leave when you're asleep," Camilla replied. She liked Jenny very much. Knowing her parents had passed away, she tried her best to care for her.
Jenny thanked her sweetly.
Camilla grinned. "If only my future daughter-in-law could be as sweet and adorable as you!"
Chapter 350
Since childhood, Jenny had known how to get along with people. She was kind and amiable to everyone. She smiled sincerely. "You're a nice person, so your wish will come true."
Camilla laughed. "I appreciate that." She then tidied the room with extra care. Perhaps she would have a wonderful daughter-in-law after all!
Just then, Joe entered. His expression softened at the sound of laughter.
Camilla tensed at the sight of him. He was imposing, and despite her age, she didn't dare meet his gaze.
"Joe!" Jenny was delighted to see him.
Her post-surgery limitations prevented her from rushing to him; she dismissed the thought immediately. Joe disliked close proximity. Even though they grew up together, he avoided closeness. He wouldn't let her link arms or hug him. Once, when she hugged him, he scolded her.
Initially, she felt upset. Then she realized he treated everyone equally. Annie, in particular, had tried various tactics to get close to Joe, claiming friendship and using Rowan to get closer, but remained a stranger to him. Jenny, however, felt she was important to Joe; he often helped her with various matters.
