Chapter 351

Jenny could choose her favorite major without reservation.

"How do you feel today?" Joe asked, walking to the bedside.

"I feel much better," Jenny replied, looking envious. "I heard Paul say you and Skylar went to sea. Did you have fun?" She deeply wished she had been the one to go with him.

Joe responded faintly, a solemn air about him. He seemed preoccupied and didn't mention his feelings about the trip.

Jenny sensed something was amiss. Had they quarreled? Had they had a bad day? Envious anticipation flickered on her face. "I've never been to sea with you, Joe. How about you take me after I recover?"

"There will be a chance," he replied faintly. "It's getting late. Get some rest."

Joe was usually quiet, but today, Jenny felt he was cold and indifferent. He restrained himself, but his bad mood was palpable. She wasn't usually curious, but she couldn't help herself.

"Joe, are you upset? Is there anything you want to share?" Jenny asked quickly, stopping him as he was about to leave.

Joe stopped and turned. "It's nothing. Go to sleep," he said, then strode out of the ward.

Jenny stared at the closed door, dumbfounded. She bit her lip.

Camilla, standing nearby, regained her composure. Noticing Jenny's distress, she asked with concern, "Ms. Scott, is everything alright?"

Jenny shook her head. "It's nothing," she said, secretly clenching her fists.

Joe returned to the hotel after leaving the hospital. He stood at the entrance, hesitating before going inside. He lit a cigarette; the smoke swirled around him, giving him a grim appearance. He looked inside the hotel, then let out a cold laugh.

He finally understood. A previously indistinct line had become clear, and he felt the urge to cross it. He wouldn't fall for Skylar; he could only admit their compatibility was limited to the bedroom.

A few minutes later, Skylar sensed Joe's return. She had only recently fallen asleep.

(The passage ends abruptly. "Oh the" is incomplete.)
