Chapter 362
Byลa noticed Natalie had lost a significant amount of weight. "What happened to you?" she asked. "Are you sick? Or have you been using some extreme weight-loss method?"
Natalie, happy to see Skylar, seemed a little listless. "No," she replied. "I've just lost my appetite and have insomnia. That's why I've lost some weight. It's only a little, nothing exaggerated."
"Insomnia?" Skylar asked, entering carrying a bag of delicacies. She and Natalie had been roommates for four years in college. Natalie had always been carefree; Skylar found it hard to believe she had insomnia.
"Yes," Natalie sighed. "I don't know why, but I can't sleep well lately. But it's okay. Let me see what you brought. I haven't been to Korel City in years."
Natalie didn't want to burden Skylar with her problems. She genuinely lacked an appetite.
Skylar considered a possibility. "Perhaps you're pregnant. Have you seen a doctor?" Natalie had previously mentioned wanting to get pregnant. As Skylar spoke, she unpacked the bag.
Natalie's expression tightened at the word "pregnant." She lowered her head, focusing on the delicacies to hide the loneliness in her eyes.
"It's unlikely," Natalie said. "Jeremy's been too busy; he hasn't had time to come home. We haven't been intimate in a long time." She wished she were pregnant, but it was impossible. How could she raise a child alone?
Skylar frowned. "Is Mr. Hughes very busy?"
"Yes," Natalie replied. "He has a lot of work and travels frequently. Even in college, he often traveled for business. Sometimes I wouldn't see him for months. Even now, married, he's just as busy. I'm worried. I feel heโ"
Natalie stopped abruptly, realizing what she was saying. Skylar had just returned from a trip; she shouldn't burden her with her problems.
Skylar, sensing Natalie's reluctance, changed the subject. "I'm free this afternoon," she declared. "Come on, I'll take you to the doctor for a checkup, then we'll have dinner."
Natalie wanted to refuse, but Skylar's persistence won. She obediently accompanied Skylar to the hospital.
Fortunately, she was fine. The doctor advised her against overthinking and encouraged her to get out more.
Afterwards, they dined at Jipsburg's most expensive buffet.
"Being with you makes me feel alive!" Natalie exclaimed. "Why was I so distressed and secretive? From now on, the real Natalie is back! I don't care if Jeremy is busy. I'll go to work tomorrow!"
This decision was spurred by the doctor's concern; it was as if he saw a serious mental illness. Her inherent optimism quickly dispelled her self-doubt about Jeremy's feelings.
Skylar smiled at the rejuvenated Natalie. "That's great! I support you! What job did you find?"
"Why don't you guess?" Natalie teased.
