“By the way, Mom, there’s one more thing I’d like to discuss with you. I plan to open a store selling antiques and paintings, primarily through livestreaming. Can you help me manage it? With your help, I can go to work without worrying.”

Skylar had conceived this idea early on. Although Janine appeared gentle, Skylar knew her mother was perceptive and self-assured.

Janine’s eyes welled up as she listened to Skylar's vision for the future. Her heart yearned for this; it felt like she'd finally found direction. Now that her children were grown, she could live for herself.

They talked for a while. After lunch, Janine remembered something. “I heard about the Williamses. Sadie had a car accident and is still hospitalized. They want you to care for her. What do you think?”

“Aside from blood ties, I have no legal obligation to them. Sadie's four children can care for her. They're just trying to avoid their responsibility. If they’d treated me like family and hadn't wronged me, I'd do my best. Now? They can forget it!” Skylar said coldly, her expression darkening.

Janine was heartbroken. “What did the Williamses do to you while you were staying with them?”

Though Skylar didn't detail the events, Janine sensed something unimaginable had happened. Having gotten to know the Williamses, she concluded they were a greedy, unconscionable group.

“Mom, it’s all over now.” Skylar avoided recalling the incident before her rebirth.

Janine then recalled Maisy's calls and WhatsApp messages. “I have a bad feeling about this. That family is underhanded. They might try to force you out of your job. You’d better be prepared, Skye.”

They had mistreated Skylar terribly, shirking their responsibilities and expecting her to sacrifice everything. They had no right!

“Don’t worry, Mom. I know how to handle them.” Skylar looked down at her phone, wondering what the Williamses would do and how far they'd go in their shamelessness.

“By the way, Steven said he’ll be free early next month. He’s bringing his girlfriend home. Do you want to come see her?” Janine asked.

Skylar shook her head. “It’s her first time here. I’d better not come; she might feel uncomfortable.”

“There will be other opportunities. I’ll ask Steven for her photo. I’d like to see what kind of beauty captivated my brother!”
