Chapter 377

Things could be settled easily if Joe appeared. Howeverโ€ฆ

โ€œThank you, but I can handle it for now. Mr. Legler has already introduced me to a lawyer. Since the police are coming soon, all I have to do is bring the lawyer up to speed.โ€

Joe, who worked at Martin Group, narrowed his eyes at Skylar's reply. After a pause, he set his phone aside. Jacky would handle this flawlessly.

Before he could do anything, he received a call from John.

โ€œHave the Williamses gone completely mad? Aren't they signing their death warrant? They actually sent people to Gardner Group to try and interview our employees! They even wanted to use Gardner Group to hype their show. God, the Williamses are utterly clueless! The show's director is clearly insane, too! Do they think Gardner Group is some stray cat they can bully? Do they think your wife is some helpless lamb?โ€

John's disgust with the Williamses' actions was evident.

Joe lit a cigarette, recalling Skylar's aloof demeanor. He felt uncomfortable with her distance. โ€œHow did you guys handle it?โ€

John, sensing the shift in Joe's voice, immediately went into damage control.

โ€œCaleb knows how to deal with these rats. We'll pull a few strings. We're planning to dig up some of the show's scandals and ensure their own scandal trends for a month. Then, we'll expose the Williamses' ugly faces to the world. Don't worry, Skylar won't be affected. They shouldn't have messed with the Gardners. If they lose a limb or two because of some debtโ€ฆ well, that's their own bad luck, isn't it?โ€

Joe seemed pleased. โ€œGood. Did you get any dirt on the show's director?โ€

โ€œWe found something useful.โ€ John knew Joe's ruthlessness. In a past life, he would have been a ruthless aristocrat, unfazed by murder.

On the television show, Peter said, โ€œOur goal is simple: We hope you'll visit Mom and help care for her. She's still recuperating and needs family support.โ€

The host immediately interjected, โ€œAlthough you've recently reconnected, you can't deny Mrs. Williams is your birth mother. She needs her family. It's improper not to visit her. I understand you didn't grow up with your family, but you should be understanding. I'm sure your mother didn't want that either.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s right, Skye. You should visit her.โ€ More voices chimed in: โ€œYouโ€™re a good daughter to your adoptive mother. Why are you so cold to your birth mother?โ€ โ€œIf I were you, I would have visited her already.โ€

The audience quickly sided with Peter. The host, sensing a ratings boost, was confident this "villainous daughter" would be the talk of the town. She wanted to see if Skylar would regret not going to the hospital.

Peter was satisfied. Heโ€™d used public opinion to force Skylar's obedience.

โ€œSee? The public knows right from wrong. No one can be a heartless robot. Your mother is in the hospital, desperately hoping to see you. A patient's mentality is fragile. I'm sure your mother is agonizing over the fact you didn't grow up with her,โ€ the host continued.

Skylar smiled slightly at Peter. โ€œYou just want me to visit her? That's it?โ€

Peter's expression turned awkward. โ€œMom wants you to care for her at the hospital and be with her in the future. Just move back in with us.โ€

โ€œEarlier, you only wanted me to visit. Now you want me to care for her. Are you going to make me resign and become your family's maid next?โ€ Skylar retorted.

Peter frowned. โ€œDon't twist my words. We'll pay you more than you earn now if you resign and care for her. Isn't that a win for you?โ€
