Chapter 385

“Sony, I can’t make it tonight. I have a meeting with clients. I’ll be home late, so don’t wait up; just go to sleep.”

Natalie froze, feeling disappointed.

“Okay.”

After ending the call, she stared at her phone, lost in thought. Jeremy sounded exactly as he used to after they were intimate. This thought made her laugh. Why was she letting her imagination run wild?

She decided to check Austin’s schedule. Despite being a minor assistant, she wanted to prepare things in advance and do her best in this job.

Kenny and his siblings returned home dejectedly. No one had gone to the hospital that day; they’d sent a housekeeper instead.

Jeffery arrived home to find his children on the sofa and frowned. “Why didn’t you go to the hospital? Where’s Skylar? Didn’t you use the TV program to force her return? Where is she?”

The company was in turmoil, and now, so was his home.

“Dad, today’s plan failed. Skylar isn’t coming back,” Peter said.

Samuel’s emotions overflowed. “She called the police and hired a lawyer. She’s not only refusing to return, but she’s also demanding an apology!”

“She seems like a different person,” Maisy said, with a hint of jealousy.

Jeffery was furious. “How dare she! You’re all scared because she hired a lawyer?”

His company and his home were in chaos. Anger boiled inside him.

“Her lawyer is Jacky, the legal counsel for the Martin Group. We not only have to apologize, but the TV program team does too. Dad, we were right. Skylar has support, possibly from Jacky,” Peter speculated, narrowing his eyes. He’d been pondering this since leaving the police station. It seemed inevitable.

Maisy’s eyes flickered. She wanted to speak but hesitated. Maybe Peter was right.

Jeffery was surprised. “Jacky?”

“Yes.”

“Arrange a meeting with him. I’ll test the waters. I didn’t know Skylar was so capable. I thought she was after Mr. Martin’s assistant, Mr. Ziegler, but it seems she wanted Jacky,” Jeffery said, his eyes gleaming with renewed strategy.

Skylar prepared a hearty dinner of simple home-cooked dishes and a fruit salad with yogurt from the fridge. Before coming home, she’d asked Joe what he wanted to eat and prepared two dishes accordingly.

Joe brought a bottle of red wine. They dined and drank wine. Skylar, having a low alcohol tolerance, became slightly tipsy after two or three glasses.

After dinner, Joe washed the dishes. Skylar was already upstairs bathing when he finished. He stood outside the bathroom door, listening to the running water. Feeling aroused, he swallowed hard, opened the door, and entered.

“Weren’t you going to thank me? Do it here then.”
