Chapter 419
Sadie appeared in the video, looking worn and frailโa stark contrast to her former elegance. It had been a while since their last meeting. The air of superiority had vanished from her eyes, replaced by remorse and helplessness.
โSkye, itโs me, Mom. Iโm bedridden now, unable to go anywhere after the accident. Iโve been doing a lot of thinking lately. When you first came home, I treated you terribly. I even allowed others in the family to criticize your every flaw; we found fault with everything you did. This made you feel like you could never find happiness in this family. Those scenes replay in my mind every day, a constant reminder of how Iโve ended up in this state. I know it might be difficult for you to visit, and you probably donโt want anything to do with us anymore.
But I had a dream. In it, you pushed me away during the accident, saving me, but you ended up paralyzed from a severe injury. Instead of feeling sorry for you, I mistreated and neglected you because of your paralysis. Watching my dream self and reflecting on my real-life actions fills me with regret. This is my divine punishment, and I donโt expect your forgiveness. I hope you can come back and visit me one last time. Please, just come and visit me.โ
Sadieโs words were sincere, her tone filled with sorrow, her repentant demeanor more genuine than ever.
Skylar hadnโt expected Sadie to dream about experiences from before her rebirth after the car accident. She wondered what else Sadie might have dreamed about, and if Sadie herself had undergone a rebirth after surviving the accident. So absorbed was she in watching the video that she didnโt hear Caleb saying goodbye.
Caleb noticed. โSkylar, itโs time to go!โ
Skylar snapped back to reality. โLetโs go,โ she smiled.
โSkylar, what were you so deep in thought about? Is something wrong? If anything is bothering you, please tell me,โ Caleb asked.
Skylar glanced down at Calebโs feet. โIs your foot completely healed?โ
โYeah, all good now. Itโs not a big deal. I just canโt jump around, but walking is fine,โ Caleb replied, unable to suppress a smile at her concern.
โAfter work, do you have any plans?โ Skylar inquired.
โNot really. Iโm just heading home to read and study,โ Caleb scratched his head. He struggled to focus on reading, but managed a few pages a day. He followed Skylar around every day, watching her professionalism, feeling inadequate and pushing himself to improve.
Skylar smiled. โIf youโre free, could you accompany me somewhere? Iโll treat you to dinner.โ
โSure!โ Caleb agreed immediately.
Half an hour later, at Williams Residences, Calebโs face showed a conflicted expression.
โSkylar, why are you here? They havenโt treated you well, right? They even tried to force you to resign,โ he remarked. He had a poor impression of the Williams family; their behavior seemed utterly rotten.
Skylar glanced toward Williams Residence, feeling a surge of disgust. But given their effort to show her the video and Sadieโs sincerity, she felt compelled to visitโand to see what tricks they were up to.
โThey arranged a meeting through someone else. Letโs go in together; with you by my side, they wonโt dare to do anything reckless,โ Skylar replied, walking toward the entrance.
