Jeffrey pressed on. “If you’ve heard rumors about us, please disregard them. We have a good relationship with Skylar; there are just some misunderstandings.”

Their past actions had unforeseen consequences, causing a commotion in Jipsburg City. Gloria doubted their sincerity and harbored a negative impression of them. However, her apparent fondness for Skylar eased the situation somewhat.

Sweat beaded on Jeffrey’s forehead. He found it difficult to remain calm under Gloria’s scrutiny. Fortunately, Peter quickly interjected, “That’s right. Most of those rumors are false. They’ve blown a minor issue out of proportion.”

Edgar sensed Gloria’s desire to end the conversation. Stepping forward, he offered, “Mrs. Martin Senior, are you tired? I’ll help you upstairs for a nap.”

Gloria nodded. “Alright.”

Seeing Gloria rise, Jeffrey realized she was dismissing them. He rushed on, “We’ve come with a small request. Considering Skylar Sullivan’s relationship with Joe, we hope the Martins will help us. The Williams Group is in trouble, and Joe’s assistance would quickly resolve our problems.”

Gloria stared at them as if watching a comedy act. How could they be so self-righteous? Who did they think Skylar was? They must have treated her worse than she imagined. If they truly loved Skylar, why did they still refer to her as Sullivan? They should have changed her surname years ago.

“Edgar, have someone escort them out,” Gloria ordered. “Tell everyone the Williamses disrupted my peace. No one from the Martin family is to collaborate with them from today onward.”

Edgar narrowed his eyes. Several men immediately approached with cold expressions. “This way to the exit…”

Jeffrey and Peter were dumbfounded. What had happened?

Seeing their confusion, Edgar coldly uttered, “Get out.” Their bewilderment or attempts at persuasion were futile. Several assistants escorted them out.

Only after their expulsion did they regain their senses. Had they offended Gloria? Did she hate Skylar? That would explain her disdain. If word of Gloria’s instructions spread, the consequences for their family would be disastrous.

A chill ran down Jeffrey’s spine. “What should we do? How have we offended Mrs. Martin Senior?” They had recently offended numerous powerful individuals.

Peter’s face drained of color. He clenched his fist. After a moment, he exclaimed, “Dad, I think the Williams Group is ruined!”

Their struggles seemed pointless; their attempts at self-preservation only worsened the situation.

“No, the company can’t be shut down! I won’t let my efforts go to waste. Let’s find Joe now, before he tires of Skylar,” Jeffrey declared, his obsession escalating.

Peter inhaled deeply. “Joe might be even more difficult. Talking to him will only cause more trouble!”

“We have no choice. He’s my last chance! We must try. Let’s go now!”

He immediately entered his car and instructed his driver to take him to the Martin Group.
